The hummingbirds are back and making regular visits. This one was flying about the backyard shortly before dinner tonight.

Looking forward to more of the patio flowers blooming so I can get some hummingbird flower shots.

One of today’s visitors to our pollinator garden - a two-spotted bumble bee enjoying our native downy wood mint.

Downy wood mint loves dry soil and is a pollinator magnet.

The last photo is of the downy wood mint by itself to give a fuller view of this beautiful stacked pink-purple flower.

Another favorite spring native flower - the eastern red columbine (or wild red columbine) blooming in our yard.

This columbine is the only native columbine and the only host plant for the columbine duskywing skipper. It’s also one of the first nectar sources for native bees and hummingbirds.

Photographed during golden hour.

A painted turtle enjoying a sunny day at a local pond.

Fun fact from the Mass Audubon site: Painted turtles enjoy basking in the sun so much, they can spend six hours a day doing just that. 🐢 ☀️

A raindrop dangles from a pink lady’s slipper orchid.

These beautiful orchids can only be found in acidic woodlands. They rely on a specific fungus in the ground to survive.

I was lucky enough to find a patch blooming along the edge of a hiking trail right after the rain had stopped on Monday.
