Have you ever stood before a theater that still whispers the soul of an art colony?

As evening settled across Woodstock Village Green, the black and white tones transformed this familiar corner of Woodstock, NY into something timeless. Without color, my eyes were drawn to the contrasts, the bright Peace Sign glowing above the Garden Cafe, the reflections on the pavement, and the quiet elegance of the historic buildings that have welcomed generations of artists and dreamers.

Capturing Woodstock at dusk was my challenge. The fading light changed by the second, and I wanted to preserve not just the scene, but the feeling. The soft sounds of conversation drifted from nearby shops while the village seemed to pause between day and night. Every detail felt meaningful.

Known worldwide as an Art Colony and forever connected to the ideals of peace and creativity, Woodstock has inspired countless visitors seeking
something deeper. In monochrome, those layers of history become even more apparent. The architecture, textures, and light tell a story that stretches across decades.

Standing there with my camera, I felt connected to the generations who came before me, artists searching for beauty in ordinary moments. This black and white fine art photograph captures that enduring spirit, offering a sophisticated piece of wall art that brings the timeless character of Woodstock into any space.

As dusk settled over the Woodstock Village Green in Woodstock, NY, the glowing Peace Sign above the Garden Cafe and Bonbons & Confections drew me into the heart of this beloved Art Colony. The fading blue sky wrapped the village in a gentle stillness while warm golden light spilled from storefront windows onto the quiet streets below.

I had come with a challenge, to capture the iconic spirit of Woodstock at sunset, that fleeting moment when day surrenders to evening and every shadow seems to tell a story. The air carried the scent of summer greenery. A distant conversation drifted through the square, blending with the soft hum of the village settling into night.

Known as "The Colony of the Arts," Woodstock has welcomed painters, writers, musicians, and seekers for more than a century. Though the famous Woodstock Music & Art Fair took place elsewhere, the town remains forever linked with the ideals of peace, creativity, and community. Here in the heart of town, the illuminated Peace Sign felt like a beacon, reflecting Woodstock's enduring message of harmony and hope.

As I framed the scene, I felt immersed in the culture and history surrounding me. The warm glow of the Garden Cafe, the iconic symbol of peace, and the quiet charm of the village square created a moment I knew would never come again. This fine art photograph invites that feeling into your home, a daily reminder that beauty, creativity, and peace can still be found when we slow down long enough to see them.

The most exciting part of our Zion National Park adventure was hiking The Narrows. The Narrows is one of Zion National Park’s most iconic and challenging hikes. To hike The Narrows you venture into the Virgin River wearing waders and trek through the narrowest section of Zion Canyon, where the Virgin River has carved a deep, winding gorge through towering sandstone walls. We walked on river rock for nearly 5 hours in water that ranged from mid calf to mid chest height. It was quite the challenge but the views were amazing and well worth the effort. We carried our camera gear in water proof backpacks and only removed our cameras once we were safely positioned in an area where we wanted to capture an amazing photograph. Enjoy!

Have you ever stood before a theater that still whispers the soul of an art colony?

Woodstock Play House glowed at Sunset in Woodstock, NY, where the spirit of the Art Colony still lingers beneath winter skies. I stood quietly across the snow-covered lot as the last light softened the historic Woodstock Playhouse, known lovingly as the heart of “The Colony.” The Catskill air carried a deep stillness broken only by the faint rustle of bare trees and the crunch of snow beneath my boots.

My challenge was capturing this iconic landmark at just the right moment, balancing fading light, winter cold, and the emotion of a place woven deeply into Woodstock’s creative soul. Founded during the years when Woodstock earned names like “The Most Famous Small Town in the World” and “The Byrdcliffe Arts Colony,” this town has long welcomed dreamers, musicians, painters, and storytellers seeking inspiration in the mountains.

As sunset painted soft lavender and peach tones across the sky, the Playhouse seemed alive with echoes of actors, artists, and visitors who once filled these streets with creativity and hope. Standing there, camera in hand, I felt immersed in the culture that made Woodstock legendary. This fine art photograph preserves that quiet winter beauty so you can bring the warmth, history, and artistic spirit of Woodstock into your own space.

What stories still echo beneath the steeple lights of Woodstock, NY?

As the last glow of Sunset settled over the Dutch Reform Church in Woodstock, NY, the Art Colony’s quiet town square shimmered beneath gathering storm clouds, I stood there in the “Colony of the Arts,” listening to rainwater whisper across the pavement while the church steeple rose like a beacon above “The Most Famous Small Town in the World.”

Founded in 1799, this historic church has watched generations pass through Woodstock, from farmers and faithful parishioners to painters, musicians, and dreamers seeking refuge in the Catskills. Though many connect Woodstock with peace, music, and creativity, the soul of the town lives just as deeply in places like this, where history still lingers in the evening air.

My challenge was capturing the Dutch Reform Church at the exact moment sunset softened the harshness of the storm. The fading light changed every second. Cars rolled through the square, rain threatened my lens, and the American flag twisted sharply in the wind. Yet standing there, surrounded by wet stone, glowing windows, and the scent of spring trees after rain, I felt fully immersed in Woodstock’s culture and spirit.

When I finally pressed the shutter, it felt like preserving more than architecture. I was holding onto a fleeting moment of calm and grace. This fine art photograph invites that same peace into your home, a reminder that beauty still waits quietly in historic places if we pause long enough to see it.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend.. Please take a moment to honor all those who have served and have sacrificed so much to preserve the freedoms we enjoy today. One of our most moving journeys took us to Normandy where we got to honor so many young Americans who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

"Freedom Tower and NYC Skyline at Dawn"

Capturing this photograph of the NYC skyline with the Freedom Tower distinguishing itself at dawn just prior to sunrise was an exciting experience.

Freedom Tower, aka as One World Trade Center, is 1776 feet tall. This height was chosen to represent the year the United States Declaration of Independence was signed. The building was opened in 2014 and clearly represents America’s resilience and freedom following the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. It is the tallest building in the United States and the 7th tallest building in the world.

For this photograph, I created a large panoramic view by stitching together 3 blended sections each of 3 photos for a total of 9 photographs. This enabled me to capture this majestic view in all its glory by capturing all the detail from the both the darkest and brightest parts of the scene. Enjoy!

What secrets awaken inside castle walls after blue hour fades?

Hensol Castle rose before me in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales United Kingdom, its Gothic Revival style glowing softly beneath the deep blue hour sky as the cool Welsh air drifted across the lawns of the “Garden of Cardiff.” I stood quietly listening to gravel crunch beneath my shoes while the “Castle in the Vale” seemed to breathe with centuries of history.

Built in the seventeenth century and transformed into the grand Gothic Revival masterpiece seen today, Hensol Castle has long reflected the soul of Wales, “The Land of Castles,” where ancient stone and enduring faith stand side by side. Warm light poured from the towering windows while mist gathered along the grounds, wrapping the castle in a silence that felt sacred.

My challenge that evening pushed both patience and creativity to their limits. I needed to preserve the fading cobalt color in the heavens while balancing the glowing illumination across the ancient walls. With frozen fingers and steady determination, I blended nine exposures together, carefully shaping the scene into the vision I carried in my heart.
As stars slowly awakened above the Vale, I felt completely immersed in Welsh culture and history, surrounded by beauty too powerful to forget. This fine art photograph is more than décor, it is an invitation to bring the wonder, mystery, and timeless elegance of Wales into your home.
