Some sessions feel less like work and more like a family reunion. 🤍

I have known Jesse and Leigh Anne for more than half of my life. It’s been a joy to watch them become parents and to celebrate these sacred moments along side them. While I have photographed all four Butrum Babies’ Baptisms, this one held something extra: the priest baptizing their son was one of my own youth ministry kids, all grown up and serving at the altar.  
Watching him welcome the next generation into the faith I once helped nurture in him? I don’t have the words. And the Baby Simba moment really left me speechless. 😂

I rarely get the opportunity to photograph at this parish so I was delighted when I was asked to take this sweet girl’s communion portraits. New spaces and new lighting is fuel for my soul. Divine Mercy of Jesus wash over us.

Bishop Tran’s confirmation homilies at CTK today were about courage and wisdom. Both off the cuff and deeply personal. So grateful for his vocation and his assignment to our archdiocese.

During Lent the people of our parish wrote the burdens they’ve been carrying on a note card. These cards were prayed over many, many times. On Holy Thursday they were brought to the altar, on Good Friday to the foot of the cross. And this evening they were made new in the Resurrection. At the beginning of the Easter Vigil a fire is lit and things like last years palms are burned. Our parish burned the cards of burdens. This fire then lights the Easter candle, which will then light all the baptismal candles for the rest of the year. Tonight we celebrated that the gates of heaven are open and ready to receive us. We had a half dozen people get baptized, two dozen confirmed, and another handful make a profession of faith and receive the Eucharist for the first time. I have photographed over 65 confirmation Masses and close to 90 first communions - tonight I was moved to tears as I watched the sheer joy of those being received into the Church. God never fails to show up.

Good Friday has a way of quieting everything. After the beautiful liturgy last night, it was weird driving around this morning, going to appointments, and popping into the office.

Tonight was a beautiful reminder of the love of Christ, poured out so completely on the Cross. It is a sacred day of reflection, grief, gratitude, and hope as we remember the weight of His sacrifice and the mercy at the heart of it all.

I loved seeing so many families and generations gathered this evening.

For tonight, we mourn.

Oil.
Water.
Bread.
Wine.
The simple made divine.

But for tonight, we wait with Jesus in the garden.

This afternoon at the Cathedral, Archbishop is consecrating the Sacred Chrism and blessing the Oils of the Sick and Oil of Catechumens. These oils will be distributed to all the parishes for use in the sacraments through out the year. The sacred oils are presented to the pastor at the Holy Thursday and then kept in a place of reverence called an Ambry to be used as needed throughout the year. Each parish has its own style vessels and ambry. Each of the bishops has his own chrismarium that he brings to confirmation Masses. Do you recognize any of these? I have more than our current 4 bishops posted.
