Dear Scooter,

It's somehow been 1 full week without you, and I'm not sure how that is even possible. 1 entire week without you here, and I'm still very devastated about your absence.

I miss you terribly. I didn't realize how much my routine would completely shift without you here. Poncho and I have been doing very short walks every day that always end on the porch swing. We sit there for a little while every day just thinking about your handsome little face.

Poncho is still very sad. If I say your name he comes running, and starts looking all around the house for you. He doesn't like to do anything except walks right now and he always stops and sniffs the last spots you were at.

I had to finally move your blanket off of the bed yesterday. The last place you laid your head and took your last breath. It was far more difficult than I thought it'd be, I cried for a while after moving it. I just hugged it tightly for a long time. It still smells like you. Poncho really wanted to lay on the bed though and he wasn't wanting to touch your blanket, so I had to, it needed to be done.

I haven't moved your dog bowls though, and I haven't moved or touched your medications either. But, I will be donating the remaining of your medications and your food to your vet office. I've heard theres a couple of dogs who have recently been diagnosed with this crappy disease, and we know how expensive it is to manage. So I hope they can save a little bit of money with what we have left over hopefully.

Just know that your absence in my life is huge. I hated saying good-bye. But, if it meant taking your pain away and making that pain mine, I would do it again. 13 years of loving you was worth every second of pain I'm feeling right now. Yet, it wasn't near long enough...

Love you Scoot Scoots

Dear Scooter,

Fall is quickly approaching, the air is getting cooler and crisper by the day. It was always our favorite time of year.

I haven't been looking forward to it this year though, because you're not here to enjoy it with me.

I want to decorate the house, as I usually do the first week of September. But, I'm finding it difficult to change the way things look since you were here.

I haven't moved your bed and blanket from the middle of the floor yet either. It's the last place I got to say I love you. I haven't touched your food bowl, or your medications. Everything is exactly the same as it was. I probably won't touch anything for a while.

Poncho is sad. He hasn't wanted to lay on your blanket or bed, it's still the same from the day you left. He does sniff the blanket every day, he knows that's where you took your last breath. He won't even touch your bed in the bedroom, the one he always used to try and steal from you. It still smells like you, and I find some comfort in that. You had the best pup smell πŸ’™

I'm sure I'll do my fall routine soon, I may find some comfort in it at some point. Maybe I'll try watching Gilmore Girls tomorrow, a tradition we've always done.

I miss you Scoots,

I hope you're playing up in heaven with Ruggar, Avery, Diesel, and Tank. They were all your best friends before they passed. You're the last one of the bunch to gain your wings.

Love you honey bun πŸ’™

I took a photo of the eclipse the night that Scooter passed. I had no idea there was an eclipse until my sister texted me to look outside. She said it reminded her of Scooter because the shadow color on the moon was the same color of Scooter's fur.

I know I keep posting about him, and I'm sorry if it feels overwhelming. I just don't want to lose the thought of him yet.

I promised myself that no matter how much it hurt, I would go back to the spot I had spent the afternoon with Scooter at, to take a sunset photo.

On the day of Scooter's passing, we took him to the river near our house, we visit here often. Unlike all the other times we've been there, he didn't want to do anything but relax and sleep. So, we brought his bed out by the riverside and let him relax and sleep in the sunshine while listening to the water rush by.

In the exact spot we chose this particular day, there was a large rock in the river that looked like a heart. I loved that.

I told my husband I wanted to come back that evening after Scooter had passed to document the sunset of this day.

It was very difficult to do. I cried the entire drive there and even made myself physically ill by the time I got there. But I am so glad I pushed through to document this.

This photo means so much.

I finally brought myself to upload the very last photos I ever took of Scooter with my professional camera. I have been dreading it. It's the last time I'll ever have any photos of him to edit.

I haven't edited them all yet, only one so far. Maybe I'll just edit one a day for now to make it last.

But, I'll hold onto that SD card forever, I'll never erase those images off of it.

Here is the one I'll share for now, I took Scooter to Twin Lakes on Wednesday, the day before his last day. I will always hold such dear memories of him here. This was hard to edit, but I'm glad I have these memories with him.

Dear Scooter,

It's been 2 days without you, and honestly the pain of not having you here is getting worse. As the days go on, I get further and further from the last time I got to brush my hands through your silky soft ears. It's one day further from the last time I got to look into your beautiful brown eyes. It's one day further from the last time I heard your feet tap across the floor. I miss it all.

I miss you terribly, and mornings and 5:20pm have now become my least favorite times of day. I hate not seeing you the second I wake up. I hate knowing that you took your last breath at 5:20pm. I hate it all. My world is dull without you in it. I do okay at night time right before bed, because I know there's a possibility I can see you in my dreams. I haven't yet, but I hope you let me dream of you soon.

I hope you're having the best time in heaven, I truly do. I wish I could get a glimpse of what your life is like up there, but I know Jesus is taking care of you. I hope grandma, goompa, and papa are giving you all the cuddles and snuggles. They're the best at it!

I feel guilty for being the one who decided when it was your time, and I really hope you don't hate me for it. I hope it freed you into a better eternal life. I promise you it was fully out of love, I didn't want you to suffer anymore bud.

I love you so much Scooter, I'd give a lot of things up if I could've have one more healthy week with you. I pray that I can enjoy life again, but for now my tears are a reflection of the heaviness of your absence and the immense joy that you brought into my life.

Love you Scoots πŸ’™πŸ’™

I am already missing him so so much πŸ’” life already feels very heavy and different. He was truly my soul dog and my best friend. Life will just never be the same. I think it will take me a while to be happy again...

Happy National Dog Day to my best friend, my companion, my rescuer, my little love bug.

Scooter, if only you knew just how much you have done for me in your lifetime. It's hard to put into words just how impactful you have been to me. I've never been sad because of you until this week. You have only ever brought extreme happiness into my life.

You always check on me when I'm having a bad health day. Honestly, I'm scared to have a flare up without you around, you always make me feel better. I would love you a thousand times over again, even if it meant feeling this immense pain at the end. I wish I could sell everything I own in exchange for a few more good months with you. I'd give up the rest of my life if it meant I can spend the rest of yours with you.

You have left a forever pawprint on my heart buddy. You are my soul dog. I only hope that I can feel this type of love again in my lifetime. I hope some of your spirit can be passed onto another dog that needs rescuing.

It will be hard, but I promise you that I will adopt another rescue dog again. Maybe not right away, but I will do it for you, so many deserve a good and loving home.

I love you so much
