Our North Island adventure certainly did not go to plan. It started pretty auspiciously as we had to deal with heavy rains and high winds from a cyclone impacting the areas we had planned to visit. We made the best of it and still experienced some pretty amazing adventures. Lots of beautiful scenery and vistas. Delicious food and baked goods. We had a good time despite the weather challenges and a crappy old campervan. I will definitely be back for the parts that I missed.

Cathedral Cove was as stunning as I imagined. On a 12-day trip filled with disappointing weather conditions, we finally got a gorgeous sunrise on our last morning. Making the effort to see this place at sunrise is a must. Such a special place to watch the sun come up over the Pacific Ocean. (That's such a weird thing to say for someone who spent most of their life living along the west coast of the US. 😊)

Tonight's sunset is worth a special post. Over my house the entire western skies were awash in vibrant colors. Simply amazing.

The sunrise forecast for this morning was looking good. Everything was lined up. Higher clouds, clearing towards the sun in the SE. Sadly only photo #1 captures the minimal hint of colors this morning. Now the forecast for tomorrow is looking pretty good too. Not sure if I have it in my for another super early morning.

VIBRANT. That's the best word I can think of for the sunrise this morning. I'm not sure I've seen a sunrise with such vivid colors. Thankful I woke up early to go take photos.

I'm lagging getting started with my photography for 2026. Sometimes other life priorities get in the way, but the opportunities are coming soon. I'm excited about that.

In the meantime, I've been trying to catalogue my favorite photos from 2025. It was a really fulfilling year for me. Lots of new places to visit. Many sunrises, sunsets and milky ways. Hoping for more of the same this year.

Another gorgeous winter sunrise in Seattle. I'm so excited about the sunrise and sunset forecasts for the next couple of days. Exciting way to end 2025 with some colorful skies.
