Spent some time yesterday at Auto Works Automotive Service Center in Woodbury updating their team photography! 📸🔧

We photographed headshots for some of their newer team members, along with a bunch of images of the crew actually doing what they do every day—working on cars. These will be used for their website, social media and print advertising.

One thing I always tell businesses: keep your people photos current.

When you bring new employees onto the team, get them photographed and onto the website. Besides making the new employees feel like they're actually part of the team, it also keeps customers from seeing photos online that haven't been updated in 8 or 10 years.

There’s actually a weird little psychological disconnect that happens when you see someone online and then meet them in person and they look drastically different. You may not even consciously realize it—but something just feels “off.”

Current photography helps your website feel current, your people feel approachable, and your business feel authentic.

And yes…sometimes getting the shot means dragging a bunch of Profoto gear into an auto shop and getting myself up in the air on a lift. 😂

Much more fun than sitting behind a desk. 📸

Sometimes the best photo opportunities are completely unplanned.

This beautiful Painted Lady butterfly somehow found its way into my garage and was kind enough to sit still long enough for me to grab my macro gear and have a little fun.

While most of my professional work revolves around commercial photography, corporate portraits and environmental imagery, macro photography is something I really enjoy whenever the opportunity presents itself. There’s an entirely different world of detail that we rarely get to see with the naked eye.

This image was actually created from 23 separate photographs using a technique called focus stacking. At these extremely close distances, only a very small portion of the butterfly can be perfectly sharp in a single photograph. So I took a series of images, gradually moving the point of focus from one part of the butterfly to another.

I then used Helicon Focus software to combine the sharpest portions of all 23 photographs into one final image—allowing the incredible detail in the wings, body, eyes and even those tiny antennae to remain sharp.

Sometimes photography is about the assignment.

And sometimes it’s simply about grabbing the camera when something cool shows up in your garage. 📸🦋

One of my favorite types of photography assignments is editorial work because it's about so much more than creating a great portrait—it's about telling someone's story.

This morning, I had the pleasure of photographing Mickayla Zinsli-Rosard of Groove Capital for an upcoming feature in the UND Nistler College of Business & Public Administration (University of North Dakota) magazine. We spent the morning in downtown Minneapolis, using the beautiful skyline as the backdrop to help tell the story of Mickayla's journey, leadership, and success.

Editorial photography is always a collaborative effort. The best images come from working together with the featured alumnus, the magazine's editorial team, Laura Arneson, and everyone involved in shaping the story. Of course, no photo shoot is complete without a few laughs along the way!

A huge thank you to Paula Johnson for assisting on today's shoot and helping everything run so smoothly.

I can't wait to see the finished magazine and watch these images become part of Mickayla's story. Assignments like these remind me why I love what I do.

📸 Twin Cities Business Owners... Quick Question!

When was the last time you updated your team's headshots?

🤔 If your answer is "before COVID," it's probably time.

Your employees are often the first thing potential clients see on your website, LinkedIn, and social media. Fresh, professional photos help your company look current, trustworthy, and proud of the people behind the business.

The good news? You don't have to send everyone to a photography studio.

I bring my professional studio directly to your office, so your employees can step away for just a few minutes, get a great headshot, and get right back to work.

I also create Group Composite images—a great solution for companies that are growing or have employee turnover. Instead of re-photographing the entire team every time someone joins or leaves, I can simply update the composite.

✔ Professional employee & executive headshots
✔ Team & Group Composite images
✔ Consistent branding across your website, LinkedIn, and marketing materials
✔ Fast, convenient on-site photography

Proudly serving businesses in Stillwater, Woodbury, and throughout the Twin Cities.

If updating your team's photos has been sitting on your 2026 to-do list, let's cross it off.

📩 Send me a message or call/text me at (651) 485-9029. I'd love to help make the process simple.

"Wow...you look nothing like the photo on your website."

A friend of mine, who's a very successful attorney, told me about meeting a new client for the first time after being hired for a major case.

The client smiled and jokingly said...

"Wow...you look absolutely nothing like the photo on your website!"

Everyone laughed.

But it got me thinking...

Your website is often the first place people "meet" you.

Before they ever pick up the phone.

Before they walk through your front door.

Before they shake your hand.

If your headshot is seven or eight years old (or older 😄), there's a good chance you're not making the first impression you intended.

That's one of the reasons I love photographing business professionals.

I bring a complete portrait studio directly to your office, so your employees and executives don't have to spend half a day driving across town to a photography studio.

The process is easy.

Minimal interruption to the workday.

Consistent, professional images for your website, LinkedIn profiles, marketing materials, and company directory.

One day.

One location.

One less project for someone in your office to worry about.

If you've been meaning to update your company's headshots for a while...I'd love to help make it happen.

📞 Feel free to send me a message if you'd like to talk about your team.

I'm curious...when was the last time your company updated everyone's headshots?

One of the things I love most about photography is its ability to freeze a moment that might never happen again. While out on a boat on Minnesota’s beautiful Horseshoe Chain of Lakes over the Fourth of July, I was fortunate enough to capture our national symbol carrying home dinner.

As America celebrates 250 years of freedom and independence, this felt like the perfect reminder of the strength, beauty, and spirit that make this country so special.

Happy 250th Birthday, America

Last night reminded me why I love photographing youth sports. With Brian Morgan.

The intensity.
The focus.
The emotion.
The dirt flying.
The smiles after a big play.

For these young athletes, these moments feel as big as Game 7 of the World Series — and that's exactly what makes them worth remembering.

One of my favorite parts of sports photography is helping young athletes see themselves the way everyone else sees them: strong, confident, determined, and capable of amazing things.

If your team or athlete is looking for sports photography this season, I'd love to help tell their story. DM or Call/Text me at (651) 485-9029.
