Iβm pleased to share this 12" x 12" original oil painting on canvas board, presented in a handmade walnut frame with corner splines.
Painted in 2023, this piece depicts the pair of bay windows jutting from a rambling multi-family apartment house in Brockton, MA. What draws me to subjects like this is the rich interplay between formal abstraction and everyday reality. The painting explores the pictorial balance of shapes, colors, lines, and textures β the soft, organic forms of the tree and clouds contrasting beautifully with the rational geometry of the buildings. Iβm especially fascinated by the way negative space, overlapping planes, and deep shadow values create a compelling sense of depth and mystery.
Thereβs something quietly profound in these ordinary urban scenes β how the arrangement of forms can delight the mind and invite prolonged looking.
The painting becomes less about the building itself and more about how we perceive space, light, and structure in the world around us.
