Capture these for the sweetest family celebrating their little girls 1st birthday back in April. It’s been busy in my world and posting hasn’t been a big priority recently. soft, slow moments with family - truly nothing better

I say it all the time but my approach to capturing your family is often guided by your dynamic. We may start the session trying to get a smiling shot but I never force a pose. We explore and we create. It’s a constant ebb and flow of energy. Leaning in versus pushing to be perfect because to me, those are the memories you’ll cherish forever.

last spring I documented Lauren and Ryan’s maternity session in a meadow and this week I got to photograph them in a field of flowers with their sweet baby girl. One season bloomed into the next and it’s so incredible to see how their family has grown ✨🌸💗

lately I’ve gotten to experience so many beautiful moments between a mom and her child(ren). I’m not a mother yet but there’s this connection to other women I feel when I witness the bond they have with their baby.

Maybe I’m thinking too deeply about it (what’s new?) but the way women come together to create a village to raise good and kind people is powerful. You don’t have to have children to feel how special it is to know that as a collective, we’re all doing our best to lift the next generation up. To show them kindness so they may spread it to others. To give them grace so they may extend it to those that need it. To help them navigate the complexities of being a human and teach them lessons that make them a person who contributes positively to society.

It really does take a village. We’re told that we can do it all on our own and that we don’t need others but I think life is so much sweeter when we allow ourselves to feel supported by our communities. Motherhood looks differently for everyone and the experience of it may mean something differently to you. A mother’s love can come in many forms and doesn’t require blood relation to be just as special. I hope that wherever you are, you experience peace this weekend 🫶

There’s something so special about in-home newborn sessions. It’s a quiet chaos, which is major oxymoron but feels fitting. I try to let the moment be, not force anything and move with the needs of the new precious life you just brought into this world. If it means changing diapers, a quick feed or just a slow moment in the rocking chair - it’s all apart of the experience of parenthood and those are the memories I aim to capture.
