Penelope is not a fan of mulberry leaves. She took a few bites, and when I came back later the branch with leaves still on it was shoved up against the cage door like she tried to push it out.

Penelope, I’m not foraging a special order for you every day! 🤦‍♀️

I started bringing the grow-outs greens last week (they already had access to grass and violets). One yahoo out of the bunch apparently pigged out and got indigestion. Separated for a few days with just hay, bathed his rear a few times, and whew, he’s back to normal I think. He’ll get some pellets tonight and checked out again tomorrow then back to the run.

Meanwhile, I gotta stop breeding such sweeties. He just lays back on my arm and lets me wash him without the slightest resistance. Then he sat on my lap to dry off and it’s like he wants his belly rubbed… that’s rare & even our friendliest rabbits don’t go for that.

Early morning feeding with Prudence and her babies.

The little blue went to our oldest doe who lives at my daughter’s house. She had a litter of one born at about the same time and is a really patient mom, so that should give it a fighting chance.

We’re going to get parsnip seeds soon. Can’t count on carrot seeds here because there’s too much Queen Anne’s Lace around that cross pollinate. I’ll try bagging them to see if I can get good seed, but maybe the parsnips will work better.

Now if I can just get enough beneficial nematodes into the soil to keep the root knot nematodes at bay, then I may finally get some good root crops (besides sweet potato and potatoes)..

The old shoots from the 2024 sweet potatoes are putting out dark green leaves already so I guess they’re getting the nutrients they wanted 😁

Now we wait. Yes, they look bad, but I have faith. Hopefully they will be productive underground 🤞

I don’t usually name grow-outs. Occasionally there’s a “Smudge” or “Munchkin” and that’s about as far as I’ll go.

But this girl is fearless and friendly. She’s got the cutest little over-silvered boots that go up to her knees. I’m calling her Nancy (as in Sinatra). Maybe I’ll write her a song- “these boots were made for hoppin’” 🤣

George Junior is still growing. He was 9 lbs at 4 months. I’ll weigh him again soon… his face is starting to square up like George’s, big and blocky. And the only reason he escaped harvest is that, like George, he would sit at my feet and beg for attention any time I entered the run.

Yep, he’s a keeper.
