Drew, Steve and I got a break in the rain today and went birding! We headed to Western Maryland around Cumberland and had a little luck. Drew got the first one which is a Rednecked Phalarope. I was able to get a Red Winged Blackbird and a Lesser Scaup. I was able to capture some action with the Scaup!!! Also took a few of Drew and Steve.

Hi everyone. Hope you are staying dry. This rainy weather has put a damper on me getting out and shooting. Some good news is I sold a lens I was not using and made it possible to upgrade with a longer focal length lens to be able to reach out farther to capture images. The new lens is a Sigma 170-500mm lens. What I currently have in my bag is only up to 300mm, so this is a game changer. It should arrive next week, so Happy Birthday to me!!! I will post photos next week with the new toy. In the meantime here are a few images I hadn’t posted yet. Enjoy!!!

I had an opportunity on Saturday to spend the day with a friend who is a professional photographer. Tom does mostly sporting events. He allowed me to use his gear which is professional grade Canon R3 bodies and professional lenses f2.8 100-300mm and f2.8 400mm prime. These are the lenses and gear you see on the sidelines at professional sporting events. This gear is heavy to say the least with all of the glass and technology. This was an amazing day for me to have this opportunity and to use this gear. Thanks Tom Manning for your hospitality and sharing a wealth of knowledge. Professional grade gear is on another plain.

Here is what got me started in photography again, especially the wildlife. These are not my photos, but of short eared owls! Once seeing those I was hooked on birding and photography. I’m learning more and more on other wildlife and sports photography. I have an invite this weekend from a professional photographer who takes photos of sporting events at many levels. Trying to make sure this happens. Learning from the experts will only make me better!!!
