This photo is very meaningful to me.
I deliberately didn't retouch this lovely young lady's self-harm scars, because they're part of who she is: a survivor. She's someone who endured life trauma and came out the other side a stronger person.
Depression is a horrible disease, one that I've had my own battles with. We shouldn't stigmatize those who have survived it (or who are still fighting it), regardless of whether or not their scars are visible. It's important for people to know that they can survive, that it does get better, that their bodies are beautiful, and that they will be accepted and loved.
