*A Honey Head toast circa 2016*

There's an important man pictured below. Someone who's been on our side and in our corner since the very first short film ten years ago.

He's worn many hats over the last decade...actor, locations, chef, transportation, cheerleader, advisor....

He's even the one who insisted we rock our branded, green dad caps when we showed up to set as a unit. Arguably one of the first to take us seriously as a company.

And he's watched us grow and scale, slowly but surely. Project after project. Year after year. Always offering a word of encouragement, a formal recognition of milestones and genuine curiosity and respect for the process.

This year, he's taken on a new title in the Honey Hive, Executive Producer of JoJo and the Freaks.

Production starts tomorrow and we're feeling a bit nostalgic and quite a bit grateful. For this collaboration. For the trust. For the empowerment. For the space to do what we do best.

Proud to have him at the helm! Jeffrey Edwards, EP.

Proudly self taught 🎬

You know we were stopped on the street on the way back from lunch this weekend. A sweet film school freshman excitedly called out “are you part of Honey Head?”

She went on to say how inspired she is by the way we’re carving space and paving our own way. ♥️ Her family even snapped a little pic like you would posing with a basketball star or an author at a book signing.

It was this beautiful reminder of how far we’ve really come. From the first Craigslist short film to being 1 day out from the next feature.

In the words of Dolly…”if you keep yourself out of the game for fear of losing, there’s no way on this earth you’re gonna win.” 👼🏼

literally how it started ^^^

And some of yall were running around in the woods and on those borrowed set with us and our tiny A7sii on a shoulder rig trying to find a power source for the ancient hand-me-down tungsten lights that Screen Gems was tossing out.

We were prepping quesadillas for tomorrow’s catering in our apartments that were doubling as the primary location and building callsheets on our Acer laptops and editing the movies on a MacBook Air that constantly had the fan running for fear of overheating.

We were roomies piecing together productions on weekends and days off from the unglamorous odd jobs we kept taking till we eventually didn’t have to. Our living room would regularly turn into a prop house or fill up with wardrobe racks.

We were putting each other on tape for lottery commercial auditions and desperately trying to get the full body shot on our dinky tripod that was held together with a hair tie.

The budget for our first client gig was literally $300. Split three ways.

But we had a vision and were delusional enough to keep going.

Proud to say that client is now consulting on our latest feature. Camera roll in 5 weeks. We scaled from $0 shorts to 7 figure motion pictures. It didn’t happen overnight - nothing does - but an honest look at the baby steps we took to get here (with full admission that “here” is the messy middle) is humbling, joyful and absolutely worth sharing.

NOW CASTING:

Late 1950s + 1960s vehicles to be featured in our latest motion picture JoJo and the Freaks!

Set in eastern North Carolina during the summer of 1969 and based off the novella written by Kamie Edwards, this project is greenlit. Cameras roll in Wilmington and the surrounding areas for 5 weeks beginning September 2nd.

We're searching for enthusiastic vintage car owners who would geek out over their babies getting their big screen debut!

And now, a word from our interns. 🎤

We talk a lot about the capital “H” Honey around here.

It’s something we’ve been trying to put words on for a while but kinda always end up quoting Boston “more than a feeling...”

Figured the best way to explain it was letting the baby bees interview each other. ♥️

The trickle down of positivity and that halo effect that the people in leadership bring to this company, our film sets and the community we call family is something we’ll forever be proud of.

More to come. This series deserves a spot on the main grid. 🍯
