You’re not supposed to know how to choose a wedding photographer.

But the industry makes it feel like you should—
so you end up asking the “right” questions… that don’t actually connect you with who’s a good fit.

And that’s how people end up with photos that look good
but don’t feel like anything.

welcome to this weeks episode! lol but for real, this is laughable, and I think I’m going to make this a thing. maybe I should see if I can go on a date every single week, and report back here about how totally fu**ed up these guys are. lmk in the comments if this would at the very least, be entertaining.

this week, I began talking with someone I was already somewhat familiar with, but didn’t actually know. he began with how much he appreciated my vulnerability and how he would hope I keep that up and he would do his best to be vulnerable as well.

fast forward to having drinks…. so fun, so lighthearted, we laughed, it was adorable, he paid for my drink.

he made an odd comment, saying if we had kids together, what their eyes would look like. I clocked this, having been in relationships with manipulative men before. he went on to ask how we should move forward, and I rambled and totally was like “hook up? idk? I guess? idk?”

then later that evening I decided to ask about boundaries, you know, what this is, what this isn’t, so that my head is where it needs to be, everyone’s kept in check, and everyone is happy. you know? like, an adult conversation about adult things.

oh. he did NOT like that.

things went very quickly south at that point.

so turns out, bro was trying to do “casual”, while being completely emotionally unavailable. I even asked for clarification about how that works, like how do you get to know someone and have s*x with someone and have “care for someone” as he said, but all the while knowing there will never be anything more between the two of you. well he didn’t have an answer, he just backpedaled in effort to find a way to dismiss me and tell me we don’t have the same goals.

yall….. these guys want what pieces of “connection” that they want, and someone else’s needs are totally irrelevant to them. they want the attention, the validation, the s*xual satisfaction, and the intimacy— but they don’t want the responsibility, consistency or the emotional risk involved.

my 12 year old son is more emotionally available. who tf raised these people?

there’s a male loneliness epidemic and we wonder why? do we though?

Let me make this easy for you….

If you feel safe with your photographer,

your photos will reflect it.

period.

man Jenna and Trevor were everything.

if the energy isn’t this, I don’t want it lollllllll.

I had a stellar engagement sesh with these two a while back,

so they were already comfy with me and I could really keep

them feeling relaxed, no matter what the situation. They had

a good feel for who I am and how I work, and it was all good.

These two were a breeze anyway, so it’s not like they needed

it. They were full of laughter and everyone at their wedding

was there to celebrate love to the fullest. It was easy for

them to be themselves because they already knew I love

them, literally, they knew. They knew we vibed, they knew

I’d be super laid back, they knew I would go with the flow,

and they knew I wouldn’t miss a thing. They felt confident in

just existing. J + T didn’t perform, they just lived their

wedding day. They just let me follow them around.

They enjoyed their wedding. That’s all you have to do.

Jenna left a review for me recently and in it she said,

“She made all of us feel SO comfortable and I couldn’t have asked for a more fitting photographer on our special day.”

This is GOALS for me as a photographer.

I’m so lucky this is my job.

so grateful to know people like this.

I have so so sooooo much to say. But I want to say it right.

what I will say, is something I wrote this weekend on social media.

I will never ever judge you. I voted for this in 2016. but in
2020 I saw something different. I had been a conservative my entire life. now? I’ve been an independent since the BLM movement in 2020. it felt weird to realize I had been a part of the problem. I felt terrible. but I saw that a vantage point other than mine— that of a single, white, female— existed. I realized not everything was about me. I am still ignorant in many ways, and always will be, not by choice, but because I don’t know what it’s like to be someone else and live in their shoes. but I try. I care. and I speak up whenever | can.
you can change your mind. it’s okay. you can be quiet about it if you’d like. but just don’t support what’s evil.
