Let’s talk candids. This is a word floating around in the wedding industry and something so many couples are hoping for so I figured we better chat about it! Who doesn’t love a real moment full of joy, love, happy tears? Here are some tips + tricks if you want images like these.
Be present. Both physically and mentally. It is hard for us to capture candids if you are running around in the morning or disappear during the reception. Delegate tasks to other people (or hire a planner!). Ignore the camera if you can. Nothing ruins a candid moment like awkward eye contact. You have been waiting for this day for so long - sit back and enjoy it!
Love on your people. Give big hugs. Hold hands with your new wife/hubby as you walk around cocktail hour or the reception and greet your guests! Have a first look with your grandma. Make your dad help you put on your tie and jacket. Put music on and pop some champagne. Read private vows together. Make your groom carry your train. Have a fun exit out of the ceremony. Get your b***y on the dance floor because that is where so much candid magic happens. Speaking of butts - I won’t tell if you give a little squeeze during your first look.
Build extra time into the schedule. Nothing saps the joy and spontaneity from the day then running late. Make sure your hair and makeup gets done early. Steam your wedding dress the day before. Have a first look so you have time to go to cocktail hour! Make sure everyone knows where and when to be.
Put away the phones. No really, put them away. And tell your favorite people to stop recording every moment of the day (hire a videographer!). We LOVE getting photos of your family members’ reactions during the ceremony and toasts and it is really hard to do that if there is a phone in their face. If you really want that instant video, ask your third cousin twice removed to take it.
