This is 37!

Earlier this month I got to celebrate my birthday. For those that don’t know, we lived in Philly for a few years before our 1st daughter was born. As much as I’m thankful for the life we have here in Delaware, I simultaneously miss so much about living in the city. A little trip to explore old city and eat at my favorite restaurant (Tequilas) really filled my cup 😍.

Let’s talk mini-sessions! My mini sessions package is designed for families (4 kids or less recommended), couples or just the kids! With the exception of Santa, my mini sessions are 15 mins long. Within two weeks of a session, families receive an online gallery full of hand-edited images. Your session fee comes with 5 high-resolution downloads you can grab straight from your gallery. A typical mini session gallery comes with at least 20 photos to choose from… which can make it HARD to pick just 5. Additional images can always be purchased too.

✅ Who are mini sessions for?

•Busy families that don’t have a whole lot of time in their schedule to get updated photos. Let’s be real - we all know how fast weekend schedules can fill up! Between juggling extracurricular schedules, family events, work events, and all the tasks we don’t have time for during the week , time for photos can feel impossible.

•Kids who aren’t camera shy, but may not stay engaged for longer than 10-15 mins (you know.. like the preteens and teens that you had to bribe to get there in the first place 😉)

❎ Who are mini sessions NOT for?

•Extended families or large families - larger groups require more than 15 minutes to authentically capture a variety of groupings and posing.

•Little ones that are shy - if your little one takes a bit to warm-up, that’s ok! Full sessions are designed for this 💕

•Families that don’t want to feel rushed - 15 minutes goes by fast! So I hit the ground running as soon as your family steps in front of the lens. Moving quickly allows me to get a good variety in a short amount of time. If you prefer a more relaxed pace, definitely book a full session.

Our family experienced a big loss this month as we said goodbye to my husband’s father. While he will be missed deeply, we find comfort in knowing that he is no longer suffering and at peace in Heaven with the Lord.

My father-in-law treated me like a member of the family ever since I was just a 15 year old kid. There’s so much to miss about him, but I think his quick wit and quick to laugh demeanor will be the one that hits me the hardest when we gather as a family. That sense of humor that always made me feel welcomed those first years of blending into the Dixon family. It always brightened our family adventures throughout the years.

We’ll also feel the absence of the quiet but thoughtful ways he loved on our family. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when we needed it, but he also found ways to serve our little family unit without us ever asking. Like using his green thumb to add beauty to our flower beds or repairing the backyard swing set for our kids to enjoy… his love was shaped in the same way as his engineer mind - methodical & meticulous.

I have never taken for granted how lucky my children are to have both sets of grandparents so active in their lives. It’s heartbreaking to know our youngest won’t have the memories of ‘Papa’ the way my oldest will ❤️‍🩹 But my kids will know him through the legacy he leaves in my husband. His patience, gentleness, kindness, and intentionality will forever live on. There is so much about my father-in-law that has shaped the man and father my husband has grown to be, and for that I am forever thankful 💜

Hot Take: I’m not the boss of the session… your little ones are!

I am a planner by nature. I go into every session with a work flow and a plan specifically designed around the information provided in your client questionnaire. BUT the best magic happens when your children have the freedom to be themselves. Having a good plan helps me be prepared to pivot however needed based on your little ones’ needs.

Newborn fussy? We’ll take a milk break, stop for a change, or shift into lifestyle poses that allow baby to be soothed.

Toddler doesn’t want to sit still? We’ll let them roam and explore (these always end up as cutest candids)

Kids giving fake smiles? We’ll shift into playful prompts that allow them to relax and engage with the family

Letting your children’s needs take lead during the session is the secret sauce. I am constantly evaluating, observing, adjusting. That’s one of the key factors to your family getting to walk away with a gallery that is both beautiful and feels authentic

POV - you’re three and not impressed with minigolf 😂

She played by her own rules, including confidently walking right up to the hole and dropping her ball in like slam dunking is a legitimate golf strategy. & The way she rolls her eyes at me as she lays in the grass kills me 😆 can’t wait to see how her personality manifests as she gets older 🤍
