If I didn't tell you, you would probably never know that I took these photos in my bedroom, and used my bed quilt as the backdrop!

No fancy lighting setup. No fancy backdrop. No tech headaches.

Just my sweet girl, my camera, a 50mm lens, a window and a blanket!

I'm going to be branching into offering Fine Art Portraits to schools - and to homeschool families who may not have the opportunity to get portraits for their kiddos without paying for full-price portrait sessions.

These fine art portraits are low-stress for the kids and everyone involved, and focus on the child's personality without forcing smiles or awkward posing.

Choosing a location for your family photos can feel surprisingly overwhelming.

Beach? Home? Woods? Open field? Somewhere meaningful to your family?

The truth is, there isn't one “perfect” location. The best location is the one that fits your family, your kids, and the feeling you want your photos to have. 🤍

If your kids love to run, explore and get messy, an outdoor location might give you the freedom to let them be themselves.

If your family is more slow, cozy and connected, an in-home session can beautifully preserve the little moments that happen in your everyday life.

And then there's the light—which can completely change the mood and feeling of your photographs.

When I'm planning a session, I don't just look for a pretty backdrop. I think about who you are as a family and how we can create an experience where genuine moments have room to happen.

Because your family doesn't need to fit the location.

The location should work for your family.

A little behind the scenes of this dreamy maternity session… ✨

It was hot.
It was buggy.
And she was VERY pregnant. 😂

But somehow, once we stepped into this little corner of Carolina Beach State Park, it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.

And here's a little secret:

This secluded-looking spot is actually just a short walk from the parking lot. 😉

Because when you're 8-ish months pregnant and the NC heat is doing the absolute most, I'm not about to make you hike two miles into the woods for the shot. 😂

Instead, I'll help you find beautiful locations that give us the scenery, light and dreamy feeling we're after—without making the experience harder than it needs to be.

And this mama? She absolutely showed up.

We embraced the heat, swatted a few bugs, laughed through it, and created something I'm completely obsessed with.

Proof that you don't need perfect conditions to create beautiful photographs.

Sometimes you just need the right location, beautiful light, and a photographer who knows how to make it work. 🤍

"Mommy and Me" session for this beautiful family while daddy was deployed.

This particular night was overcast, so we missed out on the beautiful golden hour light, but that's okay!

What matters is that we had fun, created some memories, and preserved this season while the kids are little, wild and free. ✨️

She didn't want photos. She wanted the ocean.

And honestly? I'm so glad I let her.

This sweet 4-year-old had a LOT of energy and absolutely no interest in standing still for family pictures. She wanted to run, play, splash, and spend the entire evening in the water.

I could have spent the whole session trying to convince her to participate.
Instead, I decided to let her be four.

And once I stopped trying to make the session happen the way I had imagined it, something better happened.

She became part of the story.

Her parents played with her. She ran through the water. We laughed. We explored. And I watched for the moments that unfolded naturally.

Of course, we still created beautiful, intentionally composed portraits, too.
Because I don't believe you should have to choose between photographs that look beautiful and photographs that feel real.

My approach is to intentionally create an experience around who you are—and then photograph it with both artistry and authenticity.

Sometimes that means guiding you into a beautiful portrait.
Sometimes it means stepping back and letting your kid run straight into the ocean.
Both are part of your story.

And those are the photographs you'll want to come back to years from now. 🤍
