A million billion years ago, I watched a photographer say she spends TWO HOURS on detail shots.

Insane??? INSANE.

Judgy?? MEEEE? Nevaaaa.

I used to pride myself on being fast. Details? 15 minutes. Couple photos? 5. I was very impressed with myself.

And there’s still a place for speed. But there’s also something to be said for slowing down. Trying another angle. Noticing the shadows. Giving yourself time to do something beyond what you already know works.

I’m a completely different photographer now. Still haven’t spent two hours on details. But never say never. Apparently I had to spend 11 years doing this to learn to mind my business.

Except the stupid Spider Holster. Tried it. Hated it. I’m built like a rectangle. We spent the whole wedding heading in different directions.

Enjoy the little things. Take your time. Leave room to change your mind.

And maybe don’t put every opinion on the internet. I’ll start tomorrow.

Probably the most common question I get as a photographer is, “Do you have any favorite venues?”

And every single time, my brain goes completely blank.

But Fleurish Greenhouse has been one of those places I kept tucked away in the back of my mind.

One of those “someday” places.

So when I asked Kylie if she wanted to do her maternity session there, I immediately started talking her out of it.

It’s a drive.
You’re pregnanttttt.
If it doesn’t feel like you, we absolutely do not have to!

She said yes before I could finish giving her reasons not to.

And I am so glad she did.

Because somewhere in the middle of that session, I felt it again.

That pull.

That thing that makes you look at to the back of your camera and feel your whole chest light up a little.

The feeling of not just taking photos… but making something.

I think when you do this long enough, the art can get tangled up in the work. A lot of work.

The schedules.
The emails.
The editing.
The constant moving from one thing to the next.
It is quite literally, enever ending.

And sometimes you do not even realize how much you miss that feeling until it finds you again.

A place.
A person.
An idea.

And all of a sudden, there you are again.

Still in love with it.

THESE TWO?? ✨ VERY worth chasing around with a camera all day.

Because. Look at them.

There is a very specific moment on a wedding day when I can tell everyone is starting to wonder why I’m still taking pictures.

Unfortunately for everyone involved - that is usually when the light gets really good.

“Just one more” is my favorite lie. At some point, people just accept their fate.

And then the gallery comes back looking like thisssss!? I’m suddenly validated to lie again the next time.

“Well, that’s the most fun thing I’ve done at 6:00 in the morning.”

An objectively elite review. Especially since 6am is technically a perfectly acceptable time to eat an entire cake….Allegedly.

May 1st can’t come soon enough so I can hang out with my best friends again.
