This photo was taken 12 years ago. Sophia (my daughter) was just one year old. We were at the Richmond airport, greeting her after returning from photographing a wedding in Jamaica.
At the time it sounded so glamorous â traveling for photography, capturing love stories in beautiful places. And it truly was an incredible opportunity. But what I remember most isnât the beach or the wedding⌠itâs this moment.
The reunion.
Holding my baby again after being away. Feeling that overwhelming mix of joy, relief, exhaustion, and love that only a mother understands.
I was still nursing then and ended up with mastitis from being away. The not-so-glamorous reality that no one talks about â the physical sacrifices, the emotional pull, the constant balancing act between work, dreams, and motherhood.
And yet⌠we do it.
Mothers work. Mothers build careers. Mothers nurture, sacrifice, and somehow still show up with open arms and full hearts.
Women are incredible.
Not just mothers, but women across generations â the grandmothers who paved the way, the mothers raising the next generation, and the daughters growing into their own strength. There is a quiet power that flows through women, a resilience that carries forward through time.
We hold families together.
We pursue dreams.
We create life, love deeply, and keep going even when it's hard.
Looking back at this moment reminds me how strong women truly are â and how every generation continues to rise, support one another, and make the path a little wider for the ones coming after us.
To all the women doing the impossible every day â you are extraordinary.
