Under the Willows

Some friendships carry you through a lifetime, and Stacey has been one of those friends for me. We grew up together, raised our kids around the same time, and now I get to see her in a new season—being a grandma.

This summer in Illinois, I had the privilege of photographing her with her grandson, Kai. The day was hot and bright, with trees stretching tall, water glistening nearby, and weeping willows swaying around us. But the real beauty was in them—their laughter, hugs, dancing, and all the little moments of joy they shared.

I loved watching Stacey shine in this role. She has always been strong and graceful, and as a grandma she is even more tender. I noticed the little things, too—like her adjusting her bracelet and making sure her cross faced forward, a quiet but powerful reminder of her faith. Even in the smallest details, she carries love and strength in a way that can’t be hidden.

Photographing Stacey and Kai felt like pressing pause on time. Their bond is playful and deep, a reminder that love doesn’t fade with the years—it grows, takes new shapes, and passes from one generation to the next.

Long Time No Post!

It has been quite a while since I took the time to post on this page mainly because I have not been doing any sessions during this time. I decided back in 2019 that is was time for a much needed sabbatical. I got to a place where all of my work looked the same in my eyes and I wasn’t truly challenging myself anymore. Additionally, I had a client seem like she wasn’t too impressed with a wedding that I shot and at that point it rocked my confidence in my own work. Now, she never told me this to my face, but it was in her lack of communication and her body language when I delivered her album and it definitely triggered a collapse in me. I have always strived to make every single person that is my client extremely happy with their experience and with the final product and somehow I believed that I missed that for them and I wasn’t sure how. I realized after that silent feedback that my work started to slip and my joy in shooting started to lack and I truly couldn’t enjoy a single shoot anymore. Don’t get me wrong. I still loved working with people and doing the shoots, but there was something missing for me. I like to be challenged and I’m not sure why this broke me but it did.

The timing of my break was a Godsend and I could not have made my business work during the pandemic without my husband so I’m extremely grateful for my husband Doug, who supported me and encouraged me to take a break and discover if there was anything else that I needed to learn or figure out or possibly even discover that was out there for me that I didn’t know. These last four years I’ve spent time taking care of me and my family and our zoo! LOL I saw my son Dauson graduate high school and of course I did his senior pictures and my nephews senior pictures and that was a lot of fun! I spent a lot of time serving in church leading worship while hosting women’s groups and I truly love doing these things! I’ve also been able to spend the last four years with my son Laken who is now 12 and heading in to 7th grade (yikes) and my husband Doug. We have been doing some traveling off and on when he is not working and trying to be with our families more. We have made countless memories. We have shed some tears and laughed harder than I have in years.

I did try working in a couple different places just to kind of get back out there and do something for someone else and I really had a good time learning and growing and just engaging with the community again, but overall I kept feeling like eventually I would come back to doing photography. I still wasn’t 100% sure, but as we were getting closer to 2025 I could feel a stir in me again.

In the last four years we also moved from Fort Morgan, Colorado in 2022 to Georgetown, Colorado. We loved the people we met there and we loved our time in that beautiful place. Now, we have moved back to Morgan County and I am now located in Wiggins, Colorado, where I am choosing to open Jesa Lynn Photography back up! I have taken the time to research and grow and learn in this field even further and I’m excited to get back out and serve my community again in the community I love. New equipment, new software same ol’ Jesi!

I am excited to start booking appointments again and would love to work with you! I will start taking new appointments starting June 1, 2025 and I am booking through to the end of 2026 at this time. If you have a high school senior that needs senior portraits taken I am looking for senior reps and would love to speak to your Class of 2026 Senior! Please contact me as my slots usually fill up fast! If you are looking for a wedding event photographer, I am only shooting one wedding a month so please make sure to reach out ASAP and I will get you scheduled!

BHS Senior Class of 2020 | Emily Stratman

Them eyes tho! What a beautiful girl inside and out! This was a very fun experience for me personally....getting to know an area a little better and the people I am blessed to be able to capture.
