My work is rooted in the quiet strength of the Kansas prairie, the softness of sunrise light, and the kind of honest moments that don’t need staging to matter. I’m Denise – documenting my life and the life of those around me since I received my first camera at the age of 11. My passion lies in printing the photographs I shoot so that generations to come will wonder at our daily lives and feel clos

er to their past generation. In addition to photography, I love to hunt ‘treasures’ with my husband, sing karaoke, and spend time with my family.

As photographers, we chase light, but sometimes the clouds steal the show. The texture in this sky and the calm below felt like nature hitting pause for a moment.

Spent the weekend at PhotoCon in KC and came home with a full brain and a happy camera heart 📸

I picked up some great tips, but a few favorites:
• When you start a new SD card, snap a photo of your business card first - if it gets lost, the finder knows exactly who to call. (Brilliant.)
• Night shoots + wandering away from your car = glow sticks as breadcrumbs. Simple and genius.
• And… I FINALLY learned what back button focus is. Turns out it’s not some mysterious photography wizardry after all. Who knew?! Can’t wait to start using it!

Also made a couple upgrades… new camera backpack (yes Joe, the turquoise one is officially getting retired 😄) and a new strap. Bonus tip I didn’t know: with heavier lenses, use the strap on the lens - not the camera. Mind blown again.

I got to play with some new gear and chat with some fantastic vendors with a huge shoutout to the Sony and Tamron teams for patiently answering all my questions (and confirming my 70–200 would actually fit in that backpack 🙌). The Bedford Camera crew was also incredibly helpful.

And thanks to the Canon booth, I now have one of my Maryland photos printed, and I absolutely love how it turned out.

All in all… great weekend, great people, and a reminder that there’s always something new to learn - even after all these years!

It was a perfect morning for the FYBO (Freeze Your Buns Off) Tour at Maxwell Wildlife Refuge today. What an amazing experience to get so close to the bison and elk! Heading to Canton in the dark is totally worth it! Unfortunately ... no buns were frozen off this morning! 😂
