What a blessing the Loera family has been to me.
When Destiny first reached out, Iโll be honest, I hesitated. Theyโre out past Great Bend, a solid TWO HOUR drive for me, and she has some quick labors under her belt. That alone is enough to make any birth photographer a little nervous. But then add in the fact that sheโs a fellow birth photographer and videographer.. yeah. The pressure was real. Delivering both a full gallery and a video to someone who does exactly what I do? Wild.
But I am truly so, so grateful the Lord connected us.
From our first phone call to the moment I walked into their home for her home visit, we just clicked. I left genuinely excited, not just as a photographer, but as someone who felt honored to witness this babyโs story. And after the birth I stayed and napped at their house. Something I truly never do. But thatโs the kind of space they created. Peaceful. Welcoming. Holy.
Baby Loera, number five, a sweet surprise gender is a BOY ๐ฉต
And he made his mama work for it!
Destiny labored with so much strength and grace, even in the moments of exhaustion and frustration. She didnโt rush it, didnโt fight it, she moved through it. And Jaime, Iโm not kidding, he needs a โDoula Dadโ shirt. He was steady, present, unwavering. Right by her side the entire time, only stepping away to tend the fire, fill the tub, or bring her water. The way he prayed over his bride ๐ฅน I donโt even have the right words for it, it was powerful.
The worship music filled their home. The atmosphere was thick with peace, love, and intention. It was more than beautiful, it was sacred.
Their story is just as special as this birth. Choosing to leave the city and return to a simple farmhouse life, raising their babies, homesteading, homeschoolingโฆ itโs the kind of life that makes you slow down and pay attention. You should absolutely follow along with them.
I have to laugh because itโs almost eerie how similar our stories are; RV living, husbands both in the military, both of us in the birth world, both walked away from the city and came back to rural Kansas, raising and homeschooling our babies.. even our 2025 word of the year was the same. Abide.
I could keep going.
Itโs one of those connections that just doesnโt feel random. Like the Lord was clearly weaving something together long before we ever met.
And these images, narrowing them down was nearly impossible. I love every single one.
