I hit 36 weeks today. Thats already 5 more weeks than we made it with our first born. Definitely been an easier and less emotionally draining pregnancy than the first, but as with any, not without its trials. And as a woman who wants to experience birth as natural as possible, not treating it like a disease or an injury, it’s frustrating to face our country’s/medical system’s approach. I’m thankful for a husband who is supportive of spending out of pocket for a doula (cuz insurance won’t cover it despite being shown to decrease complications and therefore cost to insurance 🙄) and the supportive tribe that I have around me.

As per usual, I didn’t remember to take the regular “bump” photos, but I did decide to treat myself to some creative time alone doing self portraits. I see those “imperfections” that people so often want fixed (full disclosure, I did edit out some mosquito bites lol). I see the tan lines and the extra thigh weight, but I also see the fibroids, the bicorunauted uterus, caesarean scar thickness being just thinner than we’d like. I feel the inner and outer fear, and I’m working to move past it.

And I hope you do too. Trust your body, trust that it will work, trust the eons of woman that have birthed before you in homes, fields, cars, hospitals. Trust that you’re magnificent and powerful and that your body and your soul is amazing.

Taking a roll of film in to get processed tomorrow. Came out of my mom’s old camera and its been in there for how many years…no one knows. I’m guessing 20. Not even sure if the film will be any good!

Driving out to the Flint Hills early April, I was 90% sure we’d be smoked out and unable to shoot. We drove down roads with fire up to the asphalt on both sides, giant plumes of smoke all around as we got closer to Pioneer Bluffs. We lucked out though, didn’t suffer too much smoke inhalation, and got some A+ shots of the fires once the sun went down.
