If you’ve never made a custom film before, vacations are the perfect place to start. I shared these tips with my sister last year when they were preparing for a 3 week trip to the midwest and she did an awesome job!
Tips for filming vacations:
1. Shoot in landscape
✳️ If you’d like your finished product to be a horizontal video to watch on the computer or TV, be mindful to take videos in landscape so the image fills the screen.
2. Ask for help
✳️ If you’re traveling with family or friends, share with them your plans to make a video and ask them to take videos when they think of it and share them with you afterwards.
3. Daily deletes
✳️ If your trip is more than a few days, I would highly suggest taking a few minutes each night to go through your photos/videos and pare them down. You will undoubtedly end up with 10 shots of the same child going down a waterslide and you don’t need to keep them all. 🙈 Trust me, sorting through your footage in small batches during the trip will pay off later when you’re deciding what to share. You’ve only kept your favorites and the job is done!
4. Get creative
✳️ Vacation is the time to try new things! Take advantage of the time away from your routine to try a different angle, play with water (if your phone or case is waterproof), or make a timelapse.
Regardless if your trip was last year or you’re about to embark, it’s not too late to get a custom keepsake film! Send me a message and I’ll have you reliving those vacation memories in no time.
