When we left Seyðisfjörður, we sailed northward and briefly passed north over the Arctic Circle! The next stop on our Iceland cruise, was the far northern city of Akureyri. We rented a car and went off on our own. The first site we wanted to see, were these beautiful waterfalls, Goðafoss. The name translates to "Waterfall of the Gods." These falls were amazing, and you could view them from either side, and from several angles. I'll be posting several of these photos this week.

The fjord at Seyðisfjörður, in eastern Iceland, was nothing less than majestic! Our time here was so enjoyable, we just literally hiked the waterfall and just walked around town, enjoying the crisp, clean air. I would go back here in a heartbeat if I had the chance.

I was determined to climb these falls to see the purple flowers. It was a very steep climb too! The end reward was worth it! The flower is called Nootka Lupine, and the waterfall is called Búðareyrarfoss, in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland.

Búðareyrarfoss in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland. A fairly small waterfall, but certainly has a lot of character. It also had a flower that I'd been wanting to see, the Nootka Lupine. This particular flower is actually native to places like Alaska, parts of Canada and northern Russia. It was introduced to Iceland in 1945 to combat soil erosion, but has been invasive to the native flora. It sure is a pretty flower though!

Iceland is home to over 10,000 waterfalls...sadly, we didn't have time to see them all. 🤣 We made a point to see as many as we could! This is Búðareyrarfoss, which was just a short walk from where we docked, in Seyðisfjörður. Don't worry about the pronunciations of all of these places, I tried and struggled myself. lol We did learn that "Foss" at the end of a word, means it's a waterfall. I took quite a few photos of these beautiful falls, and I'll be posting them for a few days.

One photo op I wanted to try and get right away after getting off the ship, was this church. I wanted to try and snap this photo before there were too many people in the way. It is called Seyðisfjarðarkirkja, or the "Blue Church." Located in the heart of downtown Seyðisfjörður, Iceland, it has the colors of the rainbow painted on the road leading to it. I was trying to get this shot without people, but this cute little girl was walking along with mom, and I thought it was a great pic!

I enjoy visiting other countries, and experiencing different cultures and scenery, but it sure is nice to be back in the U.S.A. 🇺🇸 The first stop on our Iceland cruise, was Seyðisfjörður on the east coast of the island. This place was stunning! In August, there is still snow capped mountains, with waterfalls running off the mountains everywhere.
