My office has created a blog highlighting the significant transformative, painful and often inspiring experiences our local Black community has had during the last century.
Today, on Juneteenth, we celebrate freedom and the end of slavery.
Last Friday the town of Greenburgh sponsored a barbeque at Town Hall celebrating Juneteenth. I have a suggestion for next year: A motorcade with stops at the homes of famous leaders who lived here. At different stops someone could talk about the former resident who lived at the property—former residents like Cab Calloway, Gordon Parks, Roy Campanella. There are many others (see link below)
Greenburgh has a very impressive history. I think a motorcade stopping at the homes of famous African Americans who lived here would make Juneteenth even more special.
