I had been working on a post before the derecho of June 14th, but it was put aside while I took enough photographs for many more in the meantime.

Many of the photos here show Wheeling Park, especially the area of trees that took the most damage, right before their destruction, so it is a little time capsule of sorts.

While I was working on captions with really nice descriptions with links for this post, Facebook decided it needed to reload and a couple of hours of work went down the tubes, so I will start again later.

The "double derecho" storm that ripped through Wheeling early Tuesday morning left a wake of destruction the valley has not seen in a long time, if ever.

If you've never heard of a derecho (pronounced deh-REY-cho) like me you can find more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Derecho

I, like many in the Wheeling area, woke up around 1:15 AM as a powerful storm with continuous thunder and lightning, high winds, and pelting rain moved through the valley. Power in many homes was lost and only gradually has come back on over the week.

Eventually I got back to sleep and didn't think much of it until we ventured out on Tuesday to find...

The cool mornings and mostly blue skies of spring are passing quickly in the Ohio Valley as the heat rises and we find ourselves on the doorstep of summer.

The valley is humming with activity as construction continues on local bridges and roads, home and garden projects are underway, and the mowers can be heard at all hours trying to keep the grass under control.

My camera has also been busy in the past three weeks, so enjoy!

Spring is in full swing here in the Ohio Valley as I write this, although the weather in April can be a bit random - one day sunshine and blue skies in the 70s or even 80s like Friday and then rain and cold and in the 30s or 40s like today. Personally there is always something going on, but I've kept my camera by my side during my journeys here and there... so enjoy!

It has been awhile since I last posted as the short hours of the day have been filled over the past few months as we go through the changes that life seems to bring with increased frequency.

Another winter - dark, beautiful, and cold - is slowly coming to an end in the Ohio Valley, but I have captured a taste of it from late fall into the holidays and then after when winter told hold in the valley.

With spring approaching, much lies ahead to experience and accomplish, so I hope this retrospective finds you healthy, happy, and ready for what lies ahead...
