Photos lie. They trap light making it appear fixed and lasting. It’s not. Light is absorbed, bounces, and reflects like our memories. People leave us, or erase us, while the photo grips a moment that is less real than the transient nature it attempted to capture. I took this photo right after this couple got engaged. He asked me to film the proposal on his phone and I grabbed this moment while he rewatched the footage. I often wonder how their marriage turned out. Did it last like the photo or was it erased and replaced?
