One of the first jobs I applied to after leaving the Cortland Standard was a junior hockey announcer job that would require a 1,000 mile-plus move. After I sent my application email, the owner got back to me basically right away, impressed with my qualifications.

There was a salary posted, but when I asked them for some more details about compensation, especially in light of my experience that they were so impressed with AND the relocation requirements, they replied with a boilerplate "why do you millennials care so much about money, we're a family here" crap.

That same employer emailed me a couple months later asking if I would still consider the job, because the person they hired sucked, largely because they had never done hockey PBP before. I said I would consider it, but I still needed to know more about compensation. They never replied to me after that.

Today, I found that same job posted online as an unpaid internship.

When people tell you who they are, believe them.
