I'm not even a whiskey fan but it sure looks pretty in the studio! I especially enjoy the smoke dragon protecting my whiskey at all costs. Yep, you can see it now, can't ya? The studio is currently set up for objects and smoke, which is a just-for-learning-and-fun setup, but I do really shooting glassware and smoke, it's a classy looking combination.

I couldn’t have asked for a better commercial for my studio photography than this amazing episode by The Honest Cosplayer talking about finishing her Ripley cosplay and driving way too far to shoot with me in my studio. It really was quite the epic photoshoot, and because I know how organized Kristi is, I knew I had to over-plan for this shoot, which I really need to do for all my shoots, because being organized just works better for optimal output and results.

Check out the episode on her YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/l7Z6_Hmcv2g?si=7Yk9DCaKoKKKG0hZ

I may be biased, but I think it’s her best episode yet

I created a preset in ON1 just for my collection of Expedition 33 images I shot of Tawny Blake in her Sciel cosplay, every bit made and constructed by her, she's pretty incredible like that.

PleasantHiss is tough to capture head to toe, she's very long and my studio isn't very big 😆 But when I do manage to fit in her lengthy torso, her 4" heels, and her 12" crown, we certainly create a thing of beauty together.

Yes, she's really painted pink, that's not editing and it's not lighting, she's very pink. The blue is my studio lights, and you can see the blue reflection in her boot, so you can tell there was a blue flash camera left. There's also one behind her in the air blasting the white backdrop, which gives that natural halo effect behind her. She brought all the talent though. She's an amazing model, and she made that latex Persephone cosplay herself, which is some great skills!

My favorite behind the scenes shot of the year, Priss making friends with PleasantHiss’ butt. It’s a guarantee Priss will interrupt 100% of my photoshoots, and she’s welcome to interrupt 100% of them 😂 I love when she demands the spotlight.

Portrait of my son taking after his old man. We spent part of his spring break taking a road trip in southern Oregon to discover the less-discussed coastline. It's a very lowkey region, many working towns, not a lot of tourist destination towns like you'll see further north, but some of the most beautiful coastline in the country. My kid has discovered he enjoys photography like his Dad, so the entire trip was a photo adventure, I still managed to get him added to many landscape photos so I can remember this time for years to come, this one is my favorite. This is a 13 second exposure with Zack holding very, very still for me.

This is a 25 second exposure where I intentionally zoomed out on my subject in the last few seconds of the shot, it made for a rather neat star effect that I really had no idea how it would look. I like it though, adds a little drama to a non-dramatic scene.

My son is following in his father's footsteps and has decided he loves photography. Normally, I'm an exclusive portrait photographer, it's the place where my technical skills collide with my natural talents of bossing models around, so that's where I spend all of my time behind the camera. But with my son in his early stages of sunsets and landscapes, I find myself back in it again as well, which is the most wonderful excuse to spend a lot of time traveling with him while he discovers the beauty in the world. Yes, I'm rediscovering it as well. We spent this past week driving to southern Oregon followed by Eureka, California since he wanted to explore the legendary redwood forests. He was not disappointed. I too enjoyed the quietness amongst the noise dampening environment beneath the canopy, and just being away from civilization for a day or two to experience the peacefulness nature can lend was worthwhile. It was soul soothing for a little while.

This is in the northern reaches of California, an incredible location where my friends the Cautley's got married last year. It was honestly pretty crowded on the trail, word has gotten out of its beauty, apparently. But off the trail it looked quiet and perfect in the late morning sunlight. And to think, this probably looked nearly the same 500 years ago; some of these trees are over 1000 years old!
