A Wheatfield, with Cypresses β˜€οΈ

Post-Impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh died in 1890. He created several versions of 'A Wheatfield, with Cypresses' during the summer of 1889, while he was a patient in the psychiatric hospital of Saint-Paul de Mausole, in the village of St-RΓ©my in the south of France.

Devoid of any human presence, this landscape includes typically ProvenΓ§al motifs, such as a golden wheat field, tall evergreen cypresses, an olive bush, and a backdrop of the blue Alpilles mountains. This landscape had a special, symbolic meaning for Van Gogh. In particular, the cycle from sowing to harvesting wheat as a metaphor for life and death. His signature swirling brushstrokes both energise and bind together every part of the landscape and convey his abiding sense of nature’s vitality.

You can find our painting on display at the The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, part of their stunning exhibition 'Van Gogh's Cypresses'.

When we gaze at the moon, it is something that unites people. Archetypally, we feel a mystic kinship with the moon because it's a luminous sphere, like the soul. It’s up in the sky, and there is no newsfeed yet projected onto it. So you can take your mind out of the media world for a moment and gaze onto something that is perfect.

If you have met the divine in some form, and I believe that many of you have, you would see that this is a sacred reality. It’s not hard to find the sacred, actually; it’s very easy. It’s never far from you, it is right inside of you, and all around you. We are all Sacred Mirrors. We are all mirrors of a greater light, like the moon reflecting the sun. That’s why the metaphor of the moon, the symbol of it, not only the reality of it, but the symbol… is so potent and beautiful because we are like that. The moon is a sacred mirror reflecting a greater light, just like us.β €
