I wouldn’t say that I would call myself a romantic if I was taking one of those personality quizzes. A pragmatist that loves some organization? Yes. Extroverted, honest, curious as a cat (although SO ALLERGIC), a good listener, not afraid to say hi with a genuine interest to know all people - all those would be obvious traits used to describe me. On the surface, no one would call me a bleeding heart. I think somewhere along the way, I was taught that wasn’t appropriate.
But then there’s art - art has a funny way of exposing the depths of who we are, doesn’t it? Art doesn’t necessarily have to align with anything logical. Art allows all of us to escape, to express, to expand, to encompass in emotion. And so on the inside, the artist that I am tells a different story. When the curtain is pulled back, when I step into my own wonderland as Alice, it is not nonsense. It is full blown romance, in fields of flowers with the most beautiful soft breeze and otherworldly dresses blowing in the wind and waves crashing against cliffs. Beautiful candlelit tables with full conversations. Vibrant colors, gorgeous textures, laughter, joy, soft touches full warm hugs and knowing smiles. I read fervently as a child and all that English classic literature left a deep imprint and influences all of my work today, whether it’s in my writing (communications journalist major here), hobby painting or taking an image of an incredible place setting.
So, I invite you, artist or not, to look inward. To examine what is imprinted on your heart. You might be surprised to see what you’ll find.
