On a dusk dive yesterday, about three-quarters of the way into the dive, as it started to get dark, I was searching the wire corals for any signs of tiny life. The last few days, I had had no such luck. Suddenly I saw movement on one of the whip corals. Two little bodies were moving around, but they were so miniscule I couldn't tell whether they were fish or some sort of crustacean. They were gobies! I managed to get a few decent shots off despite the gathering dark, the detritus in the water, and the fact that if you got anywhere near these fish, they would disappear to the other side of the coral. This is what I love about nature photography; capturing an amazing image of a tiny little life despite the odds and sharing that image of that tiny but oh so important life with the world. That, for me, is what nature photography is all about. Showing those in the world just how amazing of a place it actually is.
