Most people think the session starts when I pick up the camera.

It doesn’t. It starts in the makeup chair.

It’s the moment you stop rushing. The moment someone else takes over. The moment you realize you don’t have to manage every detail yourself.

For the next couple of hours, your only job is to show up.

We’ll take care of the rest.

People often ask how I help clients feel comfortable in front of the camera.

The truth is that I've spent plenty of time on both sides of it.

I know what it feels like to wonder what to do with your hands. To question every expression. To see a photograph and hope it feels like you.

That's probably why I love this work so much. ♥

One of the things I love most about maternity photography is that every woman arrives with a different vision.

Some want softness. Some want glamour. Some want to feel like they're on the cover of a magazine.

I'm happy to oblige. ✨

“What should I wear?” is usually the first question.

The better question is: “How do you want to be seen?”

Everything else gets easier after that. 💋

One of the biggest misconceptions about being photographed is that you have to know how to do it.

Most people who walk into my studio aren't models. They're business owners, parents, professionals, artists, and people who haven't had a camera pointed at them in years.

The funny thing is that the best photographs rarely happen when someone is trying their hardest to look good.

They happen when they're laughing at something ridiculous we were just talking about.

When they forget I'm holding a camera for a second.

When a movement, expression, or reaction sneaks through that couldn't have been planned even if we tried.

That's what RAW has always been about for me. Giving people enough room to show up exactly as they are.

Three years ago I photographed Milwaukee interior designer Jessamy of Color Zen.

At the time, we created a collection of bright, contemporary images that felt perfectly aligned with her brand and the clients she wanted to attract.

The funny thing about branding photography is that great images don't suddenly become bad images.

They just stop reflecting where you are now.

Businesses evolve. Services change. Styles shift. We gain experience, confidence, perspective, and sometimes a new haircut.

Jessamy will be back in the studio next month for updated branding portraits, and I'm excited to see how her business and personal brand have grown since we created these.

One of the questions I ask professionals is simple:

If someone visits your website today, are they seeing the version of you they're actually hiring?

Sometimes the answer is yes.

Sometimes the photos are still beautiful, but they no longer tell the whole story.

A handful of personal branding session dates remain for late summer and fall.

Contemporary pageant portraits don't have to fit into a single box.

Some images are polished and professional. Some are soft and timeless. Some are a little dramatic.

The goal isn't to create the same photograph everyone else has. The goal is to create images that feel like you.

Vicki Davis Davila and Rock Pledl are the kind of attorneys who bring both intellect and humanity into the room.

As partners at their firm, they advocate for some of the most vulnerable people in Wisconsin, including individuals with disabilities, transgender students seeking equal access and care, survivors of sexual assault, and families navigating complex civil rights issues. Their work is deeply personal, deeply strategic, and deeply rooted in the belief that people deserve dignity, protection, and powerful representation.

Together, they are thoughtful, relentless, emotionally invested advocates who combine sharp legal minds with genuine compassion for the people they serve.

For their branding session, we created a full suite of images that reflected both their authority and their humanity, from strong, editorial-inspired power portraits to more approachable, conversational imagery that captures the dynamic between them as partners and litigators.

Because attorneys like Vicki and Rock need more than a headshot. They need imagery that reflects presence, trust, intelligence, and the weight of the work they do every day.

A few days ago, my friend Suzanne Vinnik reached out looking for full-length photographs of a dress she designed years ago.

The piece is no longer in production and holds a special place in her collection.

I didn’t have any full length images of it.

So I walked into the studio, put on a red lip, slipped into a pair of red heels, and spent fifteen minutes making some.

That’s the funny thing about creativity. Sometimes you start with a practical task and end up somewhere completely different.

I’ve worn Suzanne’s designs for years. Many of my clients have too. Her pieces have appeared in portrait sessions, branding sessions, magazine features, and personal projects. They always feel like wearable art.

What started as a quick favor turned into an afternoon reminder that sometimes the best creative ideas arrive unannounced.

I'm not mad about it. 💋
