A few days ago, my friend Suzanne Vinnik reached out looking for full-length photographs of a dress she designed years ago.

The piece is no longer in production and holds a special place in her collection.

I didn’t have any full length images of it.

So I walked into the studio, put on a red lip, slipped into a pair of red heels, and spent fifteen minutes making some.

That’s the funny thing about creativity. Sometimes you start with a practical task and end up somewhere completely different.

I’ve worn Suzanne’s designs for years. Many of my clients have too. Her pieces have appeared in portrait sessions, branding sessions, magazine features, and personal projects. They always feel like wearable art.

What started as a quick favor turned into an afternoon reminder that sometimes the best creative ideas arrive unannounced.

When people reach out about a portrait session, one of my favorite questions to ask is how they want to be seen.

Some people want images that feel polished and classic. Some want something playful. Some want something quiet and reflective. Some want photographs that feel like they belong in a magazine.

These two knew they wanted something a little different.

What I love about my job is that no two people bring the same energy into the studio. My role isn’t to fit everyone into the same framework. It’s to pay attention. To notice how people interact, what feels natural between them, and then build photographs around that.

This image was carefully crafted from beginning to end, but it still feels personal to me because it’s rooted in who they are.

That’s always the goal.

Meet Hope.

With more than 30 years in the rigid packaging industry, Hope has built a career defined by experience, leadership, and a deep commitment to supporting the people around her. After working her way up through the industry over decades, she now leads and mentors a sales team, helping others grow professionally while serving as a trusted resource in sustainability, recycling, and packaging solutions.

This was Hope’s second branding session with the studio, and it reflected a woman who feels more grounded in herself and more confident in her professional identity than ever before.

Together, we created a collection of images that feel polished, approachable, intelligent, and modern, while still feeling entirely natural to her. From refined leadership portraits to more relaxed professional moments, every image was designed to reflect the warmth, clarity, and confidence she brings into every room.

One of the most rewarding parts of the experience was hearing how connected she felt to the final images, photographs that truly captured who she is today, both personally and professionally.

Most people think branding sessions are about photos.

They’re really about preparation.

Before anyone steps in front of my camera, we’ve already talked through their goals, their brand, and the story they want their images to tell.

By the time session day arrives, my job is to guide, direct, encourage, adjust, hype, problem-solve, and occasionally make terrible jokes 😆

Because the goal isn’t just creating a headshot.

It’s creating a full suite of images that supports the many ways you show up professionally, whether that’s on your website, LinkedIn, social media, newsletters, speaking engagements, marketing materials, or somewhere else entirely.

And yes… it should actually be fun.

Fun fact… the white button-down you see in so many of my shoots isn’t just for bo***ir or branding.

It works so well for maternity too. There’s a balance to it that I love, a little structure, a little softness, and a really natural way of letting you just exist in your body without overcomplicating it.

Meet Ashley.

Ashley first stepped into the studio several years ago for a portrait session, and it was immediately clear, her sense of style was already dialed in. Effortless, current, and entirely her own. When she returned for branding, the goal wasn’t to reinvent anything, it was to build on what was already working and expand it into a full visual language for her professional presence.

As a creative director in product development, Ashley operates at the intersection of artistry and ex*****on. Her foundation, a blend of BFA and MBA, shows up in everything she does: creative instinct, paired with precision and clarity.

This set feels like a dream.

Soft, feminine, and timeless in a way that always holds up.

For pageant work, images like this matter. They carry that polished, elevated feel while still feeling natural and real.

We explored a lot of range during her session, and this was one of my favorite directions.

It just fits her.

One of my favorite things about branding work is that no two sessions ever look the same.

Over the years, I’ve created image libraries for attorneys, realtors, consultants, speakers, authors, creatives, executives, therapists, designers, entrepreneurs, and people whose careers don’t fit neatly into a box at all.
