Laura Lo Photography Tampa Bay-based portrait photographer Hello! Welcome and thank you for wanting to know more about me and what I love to do.

I am a Tampa-based photographer specializing in all aspects of family photography... from the engagement to the wedding, to maternity, birth & newborn, and finally the traditional family photos. Rather than giving you the same posed portraits you’re so familiar with, I'm more interested in capturing the authentic connection between loved ones. Whether it's a new love between a couple, a mother's l

ove for her newborn, or a life long love between grandparents... my true passion is capturing genuine moments between people. As an artist, my work is an extention of my soul. I put all my heart into each session & event. I feel extremely fortunate and grateful that I get to photograph life and the wonderfully diverse people that fill it. Have a look around my site and drop me an email or FB message, I'd love to hear from you!

How much time does one need to shoot fire?
I can tell you, no time is enough time.
When you get someone in front of your camera who is a whole vibe, the more you shoot, the more time you want. So at the end of the day I was just grateful to get the time I did, and hoping some of her coolness rubbed off on me.

I love photographing people, telling parts of their stories in creative ways, finding connection between us despite our obvious differences, and discovering new pockets of magic that excite me.
But shooting at the beach just hits me different, because it feels different. Yes, the breezy air, the white sand, the continuous sound of the waves, and little treasures found all over… but it’s more than that. People are just different by the ocean, there’s an energy that envelopes us, enticing us to let go. I feel it every single time. Sometimes people arrive stressed out and they need a helping, loving hand to help them let it all go. But sometimes, many times, they arrive and totally embrace it all from the get-go. The change is visible.

In my bio, I refer to myself as a ‘thalassophile’.
Seems strange I suppose, to use that word, but it could not be any more accurate….
“A thalassophile is a person who loves, finds deep peace in, and feels a strong magnetic attraction to the ocean and the sea.”
What can I say, it’s a magical place.

It’s funny how differently we see ourselves vs how others see us. I have always seen Sara as super outgoing, full of energy, full of wit with a contagious laugh, with a go-with-the-flow type energy. I love being around her. So when I delivered this gallery to her she told me I have this amazing gift of hiding her anxiety & bringing out the best in her family. Anxiety? What anxiety? Sure, I saw she was a little tense in the beginning, but most every mother is like that in the first moments of their shoot.

To say that the perfect photographer-client pairing exists is an understatement. It truly does exist. And this is a beautiful example of that. The Lin family & I bring the best out in each other, our energies feeding off each other. And I see this every time we get together.

I use to be a little hurt when someone would reach out to book me, only to not book me for whatever reason. It’s been a while since I’ve been “offended” like this because a long time ago I realized that I was never meant to photograph them. Telling their story was not my story. And them rejecting me was a gift. Over all these years I have been incredibly fortunate to have truly wonderful people be my clients. I don’t really have those “horror” stories I hear so often from other photographers. And for that I am so grateful.

Sometimes the “perfect pairing” isn’t really there, and that’s ok. In the more challenging shoots, I always seem to learn something about myself and others that I get to grow from, and I’m good with that.

But when that perfect pairing happens, it just feels so good for all of us.

So back to Sara… despite her anxiety & wanting everything to be “perfect”, she found a way to trust me and let go enough to be present for her family. When she finally realized all I wanted was HER as she is, and not some Pinterest fantasy, she let go. I’m not after an AI reproduction or a fantasy no one else can attain. I crave real and true moments and feelings we all can relate to and connect with.

So if you are ever in front of my camera, just know that all I want is YOU. Just you. As you are.

Last year I did something that I made many of my peers think I was foolish and just crazy. People messaged me asking if I was closing my business, telling me things like I’m making a mistake, for weeks asking me why I would do such a thing.
All I did was walk away from my studio, this place I loved and used for exploring my creative ideas, rent out to other photographers, fill it with beautiful intentional pieces that photographed well. I spent countless hours putting myself into a place I knew in my gut was falling apart. The whole building was infested & constantly had problems. I knew my clients deserved better, I just didn’t know where to go. Honestly, a part of me was scared to leave. Fortunately I focused on the bigger part of my self that knew it was the right choice.

I knew someone else bought it for only what I paid for the leather couch, that she was getting everything else for free, including my design ideas & shoot setups, etc. She was getting my countless hours looking for the right fabric, the right furniture, my fridge & tv… the right everything. But I didn’t care. I just wanted to cut the chord and walk away. That place wasn’t me anymore.
I wanted something better for me, better for my clients, better for my family.

That something better turned out to be in my own home. Not forever, but for right now it feels amazing. I have always had an open home to everyone. Even my client meetings have always been in my home. I have spent a long time creating a home where I can love & care for people in the warmest & intimate way. So when the idea of tearing down a wall to create a studio popped in my head, it made total sense to me.
It isn’t my dream studio, but it does fulfill a dream.

This earthy & cozy family newborn session was the first shoot in my studio. It seems fitting that the Lyles family would’ve the first. Love you and your sweet crew.

🩵🩵 MOTHERHOOD SESSIONS ARE OPEN FOR BOOKING!!

🩵I was suppose to post yesterday, but my sweet pup, Luna, needed to be rushed to the vet hospital. Much to my surprise, I had a few people reach out wondering where my booking link was. Just when I think no one may be as excited as I am about my annual Mother’s Day Special… I was wrong. And excitedly so!

🩵This year is different than all the years before. Not only am I shooting in my new home studio with a new concept, but the price point is lower than I’ve ever offered. So if you want photos by me, this is the lowest it’ll ever be. It’s a special price to entice people to shoot in my new space and a celebration of this new place in my business and work.

Hey mamas, I do hope you choose to be IN the photos this year instead of hiding behind the phone camera. Any questions or curiosities… just shoot me a dm or email me @ [email protected]
