I never ever post the “grandma pose” in my feed. You know, the one photo grandma needs, “perfectly” posed with all faces looking straight into the camera. Not every family needs this photo, but most want it, and if I’m honest, I want it too. As artsy fartsy and creative as I am, I still love the classic family photo. And I loooove this one. This first photo was literally photo #1 of their shoot and this sweet family stood in front of my camera unabashedly themselves, so real & unguarded. They have such an ease in front of my camera. Check out the kids… the graceful dancer, the jokester, and the emotional one. Can you tell who’s who?
The Moloney family always brings so much realness, love and wild energy to their shoots and I just eat it up every time. And little Ryan…that wild child totally understood the assignment. Scroll through these and check out his personality 😆

In just a few short weeks we meet up again for this year’s family shoot and this time we’re headed to the beach. Can you guess how stoked I am for that?? Can’t hardly wait to spend more time with them. They really do make it so easy.

Hiking an hour to shoot lovers in the moody mountains of Colorado was something I never thought would invigorate me, inspire me, change my approach with my work. But it was just that.
After several years of feeling stuck, I’m beginning to feel hopeful for an evolution in my photography.

A few years ago I was scrolling through IG and a comment on another post grabbed my attention. So I clicked on the comment’s author and discovered Ashley, Marcus & Mila. I saw a photo of all 3 of them dressed up for Halloween in 80s jazzercise outfits. I knew right then I wanted to photograph them. A few months later a photographer booked a mentorship for a fun family session. And I knew exactly who to call. A few days later Ashley was in my home letting me dress her for this shoot.

It’s been nearly 4 years and the Duckett family became my friends & clients. With their growing family we’ve done 3 more sessions together.

And this latest session at my studio brought both exciting & bittersweet news. They were moving.
They had already sold their home, cars and most everything else, so they could start a new life across the world in a tiny tropical island (yes I know where, just trying not to giveaway their whole story).
Although I was sad, I chose to focus on their next session being at their tropical paradise ✈️🌴 a girl can dream!

People that pursue their dreams in the face of fear… these are my kind of people. But I think I already knew that when I first saw that jazzercise photo.

Wishing Marcus, Ashley & the kids so much joy, love, community & adventure in their new home. Loving you from afar Ducketts!

𝒮ℯ𝓃𝒾ℴ𝓇 𝒴ℯ𝒶𝓇 2027!! Congrats to all the seniors!
After 12 years your journey is ending and a whole world of possibilities will be open to you. You have 7 months to go, so work hard and redeem every moment!
It may be hard to believe, but in 15-20 years you may be wishing you could go back to high school and do things differently. I know, crazy right?? So don’t hold back! Be present, enjoy where you’re at, don’t shrink back & try to hide. Put yourself out there… not for “them”, but because you deserve all the joy, the reward of hard work, and those “full of fear but do it anyway” moments that fill your cup and show you what you’re made of.

✨And for the love of God, please do not wait until April or May to book your senior session! Book it now so you get to use, post & enjoy all your photos during your senior year.

How much time does one need to shoot fire?
I can tell you, no time is enough time.
When you get someone in front of your camera who is a whole vibe, the more you shoot, the more time you want. So at the end of the day I was just grateful to get the time I did, and hoping some of her coolness rubbed off on me.

I love photographing people, telling parts of their stories in creative ways, finding connection between us despite our obvious differences, and discovering new pockets of magic that excite me.
But shooting at the beach just hits me different, because it feels different. Yes, the breezy air, the white sand, the continuous sound of the waves, and little treasures found all over… but it’s more than that. People are just different by the ocean, there’s an energy that envelopes us, enticing us to let go. I feel it every single time. Sometimes people arrive stressed out and they need a helping, loving hand to help them let it all go. But sometimes, many times, they arrive and totally embrace it all from the get-go. The change is visible.

In my bio, I refer to myself as a ‘thalassophile’.
Seems strange I suppose, to use that word, but it could not be any more accurate….
“A thalassophile is a person who loves, finds deep peace in, and feels a strong magnetic attraction to the ocean and the sea.”
What can I say, it’s a magical place.
