There were a lot of misguided, fear-based, deeply harmful comments being thrown around the internet today in response to the protest. This behavior does nothing to help the thousands of people across Maine who are living without access to shelter, food, healthcare, safety and other basic amenities. This is our shared community. It's not up to us to make moral judgements or to withhold support based on someone's background. It's up to us to dig in and to help where we can. ⁠

That can look like donating money or materials to organizations that invest in solutions. Or holding your elected officials accountable and advocating for meaningful policy change. Or challenging the harmful rhetoric that one marginalized group is responsible for the adversity of another.

We all exist in a complicated system that too often fails to provide the resources necessary to pursue a safe and fulfilling life. We're all in this together.
