I had the pleasure of capturing these two juvenile Barred Owls the other day. This was my first time really seeing owls in the wild. These two were quite affectionate and playful with each other… and tolerated my presence quite well. After getting home and doing some research on Barred Owls, I was shocked to find several articles about U.S. wildlife officials that are embracing a contentious plan to deploy trained shooters into dense West Coast forests to kill almost a half-million barred owls that are crowding out the endangered Spotted Owl… Due to the close resemblance between the two owls, this seems like a train wreck in the making.

I hope some of you had a chance to get out and enjoy the snow yesterday. I’ve been wanting to get out to shoot these Highland cows in the snow for quite some time. It was one of those days where I showed up at my location, and everything flowed in perfect timing. It was like God just saying “Hey, have fun out there today.”

One thing I have learned over the years is if something catches your eye at 55mph, it is worth turning around and finding a safe place to park. Wherever you are heading can usually wait another 10 minutes. Take the time to take in the moment.

This Osprey caught me by surprise the other day! I was focused on a Blue Heron when this guy came charging through the sky. I didn’t even have time to adjust my camera settings… but I was able to track him pretty well. What an incredible bird to whiteness in the wild!

I took a path detour yesterday and came across this Green Heron near Sandbar Park. I have not been much of a birder over the years, but since moving to Webster, I am finding myself more and more captivated by the wonderful variety of birds throughout the year.
