We made our annual June trip to Roan Mountain a week ago, driving through a torrential downpour on our drive which fortunately stopped after we ate our lunch in our parked car at the trail head to Jane Bald. The light and weather was fabulous for the rest of the afternoon hike, giving us lots of opportunity for some fun photos. The grassy forest just before entering the evergreen forest is one of our favorite spots, and the light was magical!

Gray's Lily from our June 16th hike to Jane Bald at Roan Mountain, TN.

"Gray’s lily is an herbaceous perennial wildflower in the lily family (Liliaceae) endemic to the Appalachian Mountains. It is an endangered species and listed by both state and federal authorities as imperiled. This lily grows only at high mountain elevations in moist meadows, bogs and seepages. The species epithet honors American botanist Asa Gray (1810–1888), who was based at Harvard University." Reference: NC State Extension website.

Just getting around to processing a few of my closeup Dogwood blossoms from our walk around Beaver Lake on a cloudy day in April. This is one of the few Dogwood trees at the lake that has the glorious pink colors.
