It’s the sparkly Christmas tree in the background, for me.

It’s the even sparklier ring I could see from up the hill, for me.

It’s an almost empty Biltmore for a moment where the world felt like just the two of them, for me.

It’s the little tear rolling down her cheek in the last two photos, for me.

It’s the proposal he meticulously planned falling perfectly into place on a lovely day, for me.

It’s watching them go from boyfriend and girlfriend to fiancés, for me.

In my world Christmas season starts on November 1st. It's the dopamine boost I need to get through my busy season, always. & then my favorite time of the year ends with the twins' birthdays one week after Christmas and the next year begins.

Today (Halloween) I got to take pictures of a proposal on the most beautifully overcast day, and their Christmas tree was lit up and sparkly. It was the perfect start to my favorite time of year.

Thank you, Biltmore, for starting my favorite time of the year off on a high note.

This was easily one of the loveliest days on the parkway this summer. I can’t believe it’s the start of holiday season already (with Halloween closing in fast). I’m realizing I REALLY need to blog some of my favorite sessions from 2026 (like this one).

This part of the year always flies by for me. Ever since I was a kid. Once Halloween happens I blink and it’s Thanksgiving and Christmas. Then the twins birthday (one week after Christmas).

Mamas, enjoy the chaos of chasing littles around and being the person they cling to. Because you’ll blink and they are happy to spend time alone reading and journaling and crafting - and they won’t need you as much. Christmas wish lists go from toys and crafts to makeup and books and Pinterest inspiration ideas for their rooms and more expensive crafts (ha).

Try your BEST to ignore survival mode and soak in the little years. Trust me.

Talked to a friend today and we were talking about we need to normalize asking the people you usually exchange holiday gifts with a variation of the following things since so many people are broke / strapped for cash this year:

“Hi! Do you want to exchange gifts like usual or do you want to do cards with handwritten notes in them this year?”

“Hi!! Do you want to just focus on the kids for Christmas this year and not do adult exchanges?”

“Hi! Do you want to plan a night in December to do soup and holiday movies instead of presents this year ?”

& this was my favorite as a newly single mom with two 1 year old kids so if you’ve got a brand new little one or little ones PERIOD -

“Hi! I would love to send you a framed photo of the littles, what color frame do you prefer and do you like black and white or color photographs ?” - include some kind of baby/ toddler footprint or handprint craft. Many a person got a finger painted holiday gift from the twins our first Christmas just the three of us and a picture frame ornament from Michael’s with their holiday photo in it.

Some people feel an intense obligation to give a gift to people who give them one even if they say, “Don’t worry about getting me anything, I like to shop!”

I’ve spent most of October going through super old galleries (from around 2014 ish to 2019/2020) because the host system is shutting down. Some of them, like this one, I saved a few favorites from so that I have them, also.

This is one of Kassandra Greene’s little when they were still little at Darnell Farms back in 2018 or 2019. The twins came with me in footed pajamas and we left with tiny pumpkins they wanted to buy. So many seasons have happened since this session: in the world and in our lives. But I scrolled through these and it took me right back. I could hear these siblings trying to coax a smile out of the youngest. I could hear the twins giggling and being silly.

That’s why I spent more of my “downtime” than I should have during the middle of my first semester of grad school doing my best to reach every client I still had old galleries for before they archived. I hope every single one of them took the same walk down memory lane that I did. I walked down almost 250 different lanes this month, and then ended up at my 20th high school reunion this weekend. It’s been a month of reminiscing and perspective shifts and realignments, for sure.

Sometimes I feel like not much changes year to year in my world.

& then clients who hired me YEARS ago set a date for updated photos, bring their kids who used to by tiny and are now as tall as me, and remind me that time moves forward whether I notice how much fast it’s moving or not.

Somehow, Danielle didn’t get the memo that many years have passed (5) since she got married because she’s been again in reverse.

I love that they chose to do anniversary pictures at the same overlook as where they took pictures the day they eloped.

Enjoy some of my favorites from them, and now.

PS - the sky really looked that way in real life. No overlays or AI used.

My emails don’t always go to spam but when they do it’s an inquiry for a head coach of an NFL team staying in the area and his family and I don’t notice it until the evening of the day their assistant was trying to book photos.

God really said, "Let me toss her this opportunity," and I'm so bad at sports I couldn't catch it.
