Anyone have a lead on a day cab semi truck for sale to help our brothers at Parrottsville Volunteer Fire Department with their new super tanker project? Jacob Tyler Henry

Happy Saturday!!
We had a vision. We need to be able to get MORE water closer to scenes when hydrants are farther away, so smaller tankers don’t have to travel so far.
A few phone calls and digging, and we are half way there!

Thank you to Wisecarver Trucking who just happens to have amazing family right here in Parrottsville! We now have a 6,000 gallon water tank! This is an absolute blessing to us and our community!

Thank you Junior Hommel with Hommel Companies for letting us use a road tractor to go pick it up until we find one that suits us!

Thank you Rick Norton, and Daniel Henry for making the journey today to pick the tanker up!

We still have to get some inlets, discharges, and dump chute put on the trailer, and we are looking for a day cab semi if anyone has any leads!

Congratulations City of Laurinburg Fire Department on getting your old engine back!! We love hearing stories like this!! Can’t wait to stop by and see her one day and know that she’s preserved for future generations to enjoy!!

Recently, the City of Laurinburg had the opportunity to reacquire the second motorized fire engine owned by the City, dating back to 1924. This truck was purchased by the Harvel family for $10 following its initial use and underwent restoration in the 1950s. Since then, it has been preserved at the Harvel's museum and, in recent years, at the Scotland County Museum. Chief McQueen initiated efforts to reacquire this truck a few years ago, with the goal of restoring it to its original condition. The time has finally come, and Mr. Bob Harvel has sold the truck back to the City for $10. Tonight, our members successfully relocated this piece of history to our new station, with the assistance of our local partner, Jackson Diesel. We will now undertake efforts to restore the 101 year old truck to its original condition, and it will be showcased at local functions, parades, funerals, and other events. Follow our journey as we bring history back to our department. We extend our gratitude to all parties involved in making this possible.

Jordan McQueen, Fire Chief

Did you know the GEMS MCI Unit is built to manage large-scale medical emergencies?

The GEMS Multiple Casualty Incident Unit is a specialized vehicle designed to support our community during major emergencies where multiple patients need urgent medical care.

Why do we have it?
Gaston County faces several risk factors that increase the potential for mass-casualty incidents, including major highways, active rail lines with freight and Amtrak passenger trains, and our close proximity to a major international airport with flight paths that span directly over our county. With these daily variables, being prepared is essential.

The mission of this unit is to serve as a comprehensive, primary towable response unit for any incident involving large numbers of actual or anticipated patients. Prime Mover 3 will typically be responsible for towing and deploying this unit during emergencies.

The MCI Unit functions as a mobile medical hub, stocked with basic and advanced life support supplies, portable stretchers, triage and treatment tarps/tents, and decontamination and personal protective equipment to support a wide range of situations. It also includes an onboard command center with advanced communication capabilities to streamline coordination among responding agencies.

This unit was made possible through a combination of grants and additional funding sources, ensuring our community is equipped with the resources needed to respond effectively when disaster strikes.

🎄 Be on the lookout for it at one of the upcoming Christmas Parades! 🎄

We’re excited to share this incredible resource with our community and continue serving Gaston County with excellence.

Look at this cool brush truck still in active service!!! These rigs used to be commonplace at many FD’s. Comment and share pics if your FD ever ran (or still has!!!) a Dodge M37 or a Jeep M715A for a brush truck!

This afternoon, A-Shift responded to a small brush fire that was spreading toward the woods. Brush 115 and Engine 111 made a quick stop on the fire before it could reach a heavily wooded area. This was an escaped fire from the homeowner burning debris We were also assisted by Brush 100 from North 321 Fire Department.

Even with the rain we’ve received over the past week, conditions remain very dry. Please use caution with any outdoor burning

Photos from our most recent trip through Buncombe, Henderson and Transylvania are now uploaded!! Special thanks to Asheville Fire Department Station 11, Mills River Fire and Rescue, Brevard Fire Department, Transylvania County Rescue Squad, Cedar Mountain Fire Rescue Inc., and Connestee Fire Rescue for your hospitality!! And a bonus relic from Lake Toxaway FD parked at the nearby Grand Olde Station!! It was good to see their engine restored! Last time we saw her, she was in a sad state of disrepair over in Bryson City, NC parked in a field. North Transylvania Fire Rescue we tried to stop by but nobody was home and Rosman Fire Rescue we ran out of sunlight, sadly! We will be back soon!! Here are a few samples, but check out the website for more! Also, thank you to Crabtree Ironduff Volunteer Fire Department for letting me photograph your new Engine 16!! It is now uploaded as well!! www.wncfirepics.com

I’ve heard lots of talk about these little aerial trucks lately. Small, short wheelbase, 4x4 capable, easy to access mountain roads. What’s y’all’s thoughts on them?
