Journal #3 Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. we sat here with our legs in the sun for what felt like hours, as people rented canoes, I was content to pull out my sketch pad and draw this quiet scene. the turquoise lake (epitomized by Instagram feeds) is even more magical in person. I took a deep breath as I took it all in, and I thought, there is still something about being “someplace.” we few remaining nostalgics know this. we prefer the sound of a crinkly newspaper in our hands instead of a glossy iPad screen, we prefer to hear the hum of the radio, light a kerosene lamp while reading in our tents, make bread and eat dinner at the table; if given a choice, we’d rather roadtrip, and will always always always take the scenic route. i’ve always felt a part of the simplicity of these things—a walk, a good book, a visit to the library, a cup of tea with a good friend. Something about the calm of these things. Something about a teal blue lake.
