I’ve been holding onto these photos since September, when Atreus was first placed with the Sample family.

Seven months ago, the road ahead seemed so long—but this family has reflected the heart of Jesus so beautifully in the way they’ve endured for the joy set before them.

And oh, what joy. 🤍

On Tuesday, we watched a court declare Atreus finally and forever a Sample. One of the greatest joys I’ve ever witnessed.

Here’s to the little Spartan known for his smile.

Lately, I’ve been so unserious and freely myself in my captions… which is weird, because there was a time I wanted to be a big-name photographer, and every move I made was calculated. High school me intended to make it to the very top.

Now, so many times photography takes a backseat to loving and serving others and doing ministry. I’ve stepped away from chasing money, fame, validation, and the need to prove myself. Genuinely, it has been so freeing to be a Christian.

In an industry that’s clamoring to be seen, there’s endless ways I could make my name louder, bigger, more recognizable. I’m capable.

But I was made to make Jesus known first and foremost. For too long, His name never even appeared on this page.

So let it be known.. this little hobby of mine belongs to the Lord. And in that, every desire of my heart has been met.

No scroll—just one picture because this is THE picture.

Also just a little memory that makes me smile. Judah and Kayly were walking to their car after their shoot and this is what I heard as they were trailing away…

“Did you have fun?”
“YES!! Did you?”
“Yeah, that was super fun!”
“I honestly didn’t expect that to be so fun!”

It’s the little things! I just want people to have fun. That’s what makes a shoot successful in my opinion—when you can just relax and enjoy the time with your person. A photoshoot should just be a really fun date.

Sidenote, every time I shoot at Retzer I discover new favorite spots! As my boy Russel says, “adventure is out there!”😜

A quick PSA about photography in the coming months:

In January, I transitioned from part-time staff/student to full-time staff. Between work and church ministry, I’ll be limiting the number of sessions I take for the rest of the year.

For the summer, I’ll likely take on 3–5 shoots per month, and during the fall, 1–2 per month when daylight is shorter. If you’re hoping to book a session, keep that in mind!

Engagement shoots are where it’s at, y’all. Let me tell ya, we have FUN!! I’m rapid-fire throwing poses at you at 100 mph because honestly… it’s just more fun that way. Chaos = magic.

“Those who can’t do, teach” — and yes, I will become your overenthusiastic coach with wildly specific, slightly unhinged ideas. But listen… the crazier it sounds, the better the photos. Every. Time.

Shoutout to Faith + Robbie, the absolute legends who survived it all 😂 Obsessed with them as a couple.

Norah + Owen were absolute troopers braving the January cold—like, why do we live here again? levels of cold!! I showed up in sneakers, saw two feet of snow, and immediately regretted my shoe choice… cue the emergency snow boots from the back of my car, which had basically been living in a freezer. Starting a session by putting on frozen shoes is… an experience🤣

I’ve known Norah and Owen through church, so getting to see them outside of that context was such a blast. Their whole session was full of joy and laughter! I’m so here for it!!

Photos like these remind you why winter sessions are worth it—frozen boots and all. I just know these two are in for a lifetime full of fun together.

Not to hit you with a blizzard as soon as it’s finally starting to warm up—54th winter, if you will. But I think we can all agree… seeing Megan + Cameron pop up on your feed makes it worth it, right? Come onnn 🤩

So grateful I got to celebrate this sweet season with these two as they step into their future together. It’s been such a joy watching God bring them together for His purposes—what a gift 🤍

Only Megan and Cameron and I will know the adventures we had on this day… that’s a secret I’ll never tell😅🤣
