Some weddings just feel FULL. ❤️

Full of family. Full of little nieces and nephews who were very much part of the day. Full of generations of people who clearly adore these two... and one incredibly romantic groom who could hardly take his eyes off his bride.... And we can completely understand why... she sparkles!

Add in a flower farm surrounded by Alaska mountains, and it was a pretty beautiful way to spend a wedding day.

But as gorgeous as Mountain Field Farm was, it was the people who made this one special.

So much love in one place. ❤️

This is why photographs and home movies matter.

My brother made this film for my grandmother’s memorial, using photographs and little pieces of video from across her 92 years.

Some are beautiful photographs. Some are ordinary snapshots. Some are shaky old home reel to reel movies from 80 years ago.

No one knew, when they were made, how much these little bits of footage and photos would someday mean.

Together, they tell the story of a woman who loved fiercely, raised a family, worked the ranch, served her community, planted flowers everywhere, and built a life that touched generations of people.

I’ve spent over a couple decades photographing other people’s families.

This time, these photographs and films tell the story of mine.

Her name was Darlene.
And I’d love for you to meet her. ❤️

I’ve been photographing these boys since they were little, and the last time I photographed them, the youngest was still a baby. Now LOOK at them! ❤️

Since they’re homeschooled, we get to make our own rules for school picture day. No boring backdrop or stiff school photos. Just great portraits, real smiles, a little brotherly chaos, and plenty of personality.

Because school pictures should actually look like the kids you want to remember. ❤️

There's something pretty special about bringing your little girl back to the place you still call home. ❤️

Mom and Dad moved away from Alaska before she was born, so getting to come back and share the mountains and the place they love with her made this visit extra special.

And LOOK at her. 😍 That smile. Those big brown eyes. That contagious little laugh.

I'd say Alaska looks pretty darn good on her. ❤️

There are senior photos...

And then there are Alaska senior photos. ❤️

A walk through the woods, Xtratufs, gorgeous fall color, mountains in the background... and eventually climbing right into a waterfall because apparently that's just what we do around here. 😂

I LOVE how much variety we made in one session. Sweet and simple. A little playful. Graduation photos for Mom and Dad. And then some seriously beautiful Alaska scenery thrown into the mix.

Senior year is a BIG deal.

I think it's worth doing a little more than standing somewhere and smiling for five minutes.

Every once in a while I make a photograph that stops me for a second when I'm editing...
This is one of those. ❤️
Something about the soft light, those beautiful fall leaves, her expression, and all those warm, quiet colors makes this feel less like a senior photo and more like an old painting.
Except, of course, she's a modern Alaska senior with her whole life sitting right there in front of her.
And THAT is one of the things I love most about senior portraits.
You don't need every photograph to be big, dramatic or adventurous.
Sometimes you just need one beautiful portrait of who they are... right now.
Because this age doesn't stick around nearly long enough. ❤️

Sometimes it just makes sense to sneak the whole family into a senior session. ❤️

We were already together. Everyone was dressed. Alaska gave us that ridiculously gorgeous golden light... so YES, we absolutely made time for family photos too!

I love this because senior year is such a big landmark for the entire family. One kid is getting ready to head into whatever comes next, and suddenly you realize the family you see every day is about to look a little different.

So we celebrated HIM, gave him plenty of time in front of my camera, and then pulled in the people who helped get him here.

Senior photos AND updated family photos?

That feels like a pretty good use of an evening. 😍

Alaska really does make a pretty fantastic senior portrait studio. 🌲
No backdrop required when you've got endless green, gorgeous light, and a handsome senior who makes my job look ridiculously easy.

I especially love senior sessions like this... simple, classic, relaxed, and all about the person in front of my camera.

And can we just appreciate how GOOD all that Alaska green looks?!

(Excuse me while I take a minute to savor it while we still have it!)

Senior photos should look like YOU.
And this girl brought personality. ❤️
A little Xtratuf, a little Chuck Taylor, a little barefoot-in-an-Alaska-waterfall… and absolutely nothing boring.
Alaska also understood the assignment.
Bright sunshine. Gorgeous mountains. Waterfalls. And one adventurous senior willing to climb right into the middle of it all.
These aren't your average senior photos.
And I don't think they should be.
Senior year is this tiny little space between who you've been your whole childhood and whoever you're about to become. I want your photos to remember who you are right now—your personality, your style, the things you love, and maybe even a little bit of your weird.
(I fully support the weird. 😂)
After more than two decades of photographing people, some of my favorite senior sessions are still the ones where we forget what senior photos are “supposed” to look like and create something that actually feels like you.

The cuteness of these little ones makes me wish my own grown kids were tiny and snuggly again. ❤️
Although, if I remember correctly, “tiny and snuggly” also came with a healthy dose of running in opposite directions, negotiations, snacks, and absolutely NOT wanting to do the thing you just asked them to do. 😂
And honestly, that’s part of why I love photographing families with little ones.
They don’t need to sit perfectly, smile on command, or behave like tiny adults. We can play, explore, snuggle, be silly, take a break when we need one—and somewhere in all of that, we make photographs that look like YOUR family.
After more than 25 years of photographing children and families, I promise: your kids do not have to be “good at pictures.” That’s my job. ❤️
