Morning at Oak Creek (Sedona, August 2026)

I don't think there is any better feeling than when you go out a trail you've never hiked before and you get to a destination you have always dreamed of, only to find you have the whole place all to yourself. Only the sounds of nature surround you. A gently running stream, a subtle rustling of the wind through the trees, or maybe no sounds at all. And for just a moment you get a glimpse of what it must have been like when the first explorer stepped foot on that very spot.

August Rainbow Over the Harpers Barn. 8/22/26.

Anyone making the drive to Seneca Rocks on US Route 33 will pass this iconic barn just before the highway begins to descend the eastern side of the Allegheny Front.

Late Summer Afternoon in Germany Valley. 8/22/26

Germany Valley, which lies in the shadows of Spruce K**b and the Allegheny Front, is one of the most spectacular and varied regions in all of West Virginia, with a stark contrast between the rugged escarpments of North Fork mountain and Seneca Rocks, to the gently rolling farmlands that I photographed here. This part of the valley would make a perfect setting for the Shire in Lord of the Rings.

Cathedral Rocks

Sedona, Arizona

One of those special places I've been wanting to get to for a long time and finally did so on the morning of July 25. Oak Creek is a relatively small stream but it carved out some of the greatest landscape formations in the southwestern United States, where the idyllic town of Sedona lies in its midst.

Country Roads and Smoke Filled Skies

The heavy smoke that blanketed much of the Ohio Valley late last week from the wildfires also created some very nice ethereal light in the early morning hours.

Driving West Virginia back roads and taking pictures takes me back to the 1970s when I got my first real camera. It was a nice break from studying accounting!

This time of year the fog doesn't last that long before it is burned off and it's generally light and spotty. Perfect for an early morning drive in the countryside.

The Dark Day.

The Peoples Cartage Fire in Wood County, WV on 7-5-2027. I'm not a photojournalist by any means but wanted to capture a few shots of yesterday's fire.

An Amber Evening. 6.18.26

After a day of heavy storms late this week the atmosphere turned that magical yellow-orange color at the time of sunset. The crimson red glow of the sun glancing off of the post-storm clouds was a bonus. These type of conditions never last long, often only a few minutes. I got there just in time to get this hand-held shot before the light faded away into darkness.
