My day jobs take me far and wide, where I do a lot of listening, thinking, praying, coaching, and advising. Photography both helps me to relax and to stay attuned. It helps take my awareness to yet another level. As I rove around, the camera lens helps me see. It helps me open up, focus in, slow down ... long enough to probe more deeply, engage the discipline of reflection, more fully appreciate a

nd - on a really good day! - begin to understand what is around me. Often when I "capture" an image, I've already been captured by the people, setting, culture it represents. This is usually a full-contact, full-immersion activity for me. Photography also enables me to help others see afresh, try on a new perspective, or tune into details, patterns, textures, beauty that might otherwise escape notice. In this space I share images as a window into my own journey, and a doorway into the journey we all share.

On Easter Sunday, Christ-followers worldwide greet one another with the phrase, “He is risen!” To which the respondent replies, “He is risen, indeed!” Kinda nice to find exceptional artwork - mosaics, sculptures, paintings - in Washington DC’s National Basilica culminating with Christ looking risen, indeed. Even a bit buff. Ya’ know - kinda how you’d look and feel if you had just risen from the dead. @ Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

The Cherry Blossom Festival showcases an amazing display of natural beauty, but it also brings out the best in people. Performances at the ANA Stage add a festive note. Native Pride Arts founder Larry Yazzie and his team embodied the value of “nurturing meaningful communication among all people,” enriching the gathering through dance and storytelling, then graciously mingling with an endless barrage of curious onlookers. Nourishing human interaction, cross-cultural bridge-building, a visual feast ... the very embodiment of “the spirit and beauty of indigenous peoples.” Hats off! 🌸 @ Tidal Basin

Spring has fully sprung in Washington DC - marked by glorious weather, a profusion of blossoms, and the giddy revelry of a weary city that takes itself too seriously and finally decides to go outside and play a little. The Cherry Blossom Festival is just part of the celebration - reason enough to pause our retrospective exploration of Italia to share some windows into DC in the springtime. Here’s a batch from the grounds of the city’s Basilica, the USA’s largest Catholic Church. @ Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

The sun sets behind the fragmentary remains of the Temple of the Dioscuri, one of a stunning array of Greek ruins in Sicily’s Valle dei Templi, the world’s largest archaeological site with 1,300 hectares. This one serves as the modern symbol for nearby Agrigento. A UNESCO headliner for any archaeology buffs out there - and one of my favorite such global sites to date.
