I capture moment-driven images of your life milestones so you feel seen, represented, and celebrated.

My work is a visual representation of communities that are often under-represented in family imagery.

Excited to announce that my work will be on display at The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts as part of the exhibition, “Picture (im)Perfect”. Curated by Marieke van der Krabben.

I started my photography journey to document my family’s love and truth. My intention has expanded to celebrating our joy, resisting against black family stereotypes, and highlighting the humanity and sincerity of my husband and sons—in a country that shows no respect, grace or concern for black lives.

My two images will be a part of a collection that celebrates the beautiful complexities of family, featuring 46 voices within the family documentary photography community.

If you live in or near Tampa, you can show your support by visiting the exhibition, which opens on April 16, and runs until May 31. If you are like me and can’t make it 😩, you can pre-order a copy of the book (https://linktr.ee/Picture_im_perfect) that accompanys the show. It will help raise funds to take the exhibition on the road.

I want to shoutout Águeda Sanfiz for your sacrifice and hard work to bring this to life. I am inspired by your tenacity and grateful for your efforts.

Thank you so much for always supporting my work 🙏🏾🖤

Last year, I took fewer images and posted much less, but continued to find joy in photographing life milestones both personally and with my clients. I found deeper clarity in my purpose as a photographer, which is to provide a visual voice to communities that are often excluded from family imagery. I no longer want to Google “family photography” and be presented with search results that lack diversity and only show a traditional family structure. My goal is to create images that make ALL families feel seen, represented and celebrated. Grateful to all who follow my work, select me as their photographer and support my business. I look forward to our continued connection this year. 💫

Mindfulness is a natural quality that we all possess. The ability to be present and apply focus and attention to our work is completely up to us. Wrote about a few ways I'm using it to create better imagery on the Sham of the Perfect blog.

"Slow down, be present, and live in the moment. A few of the words I’m repeating to myself lately." Some thoughts on, and techniques for mindfulness from Leslie Kershaw Photography are on the blog today. http://ow.ly/FBDd30gvA7y

Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of hosting the mater mea Instagram feed [ http://instagram.com/matermea], I wrote a few posts about work-life balance and how I maintain it while juggling so many obligations. Thought I would share one here b/c it's important for my followers to know that I don't do it alone. I'm not this amazing superwoman who juggles multiple tasks in the blink of an eye. I have help :)

"Love this man. He is the key to balance in my life. He is juggling so much of his own since he stays home with our boys and is a full-time student. His days are long and draining, but he still supports all of my creative projects and aspirations. I encourage him to get out of the house if it's been a long day with the boys and he keeps them quiet and quarantined if I'm doing something that requires focus like editing a photo session or recording an episode of the podcast. He always says teamwork makes the dream work and I couldn't agree more. ❤️"

My feature in the July/August issue of Click Magazine is up on their blog!

"You know how you feel mid-vacation, when you’re sun-warmed, relaxed at last, and happy to just be with your family?

For a remarkable reminder, spend just a few minutes on Leslie Kershaw’s gorgeous, highly navigable website. That feeling is powerfully conveyed by the site’s bountiful, intimate images of her personal family life, even the wonderfully hectic everyday depictions.

Now imagine being in the market for a family portrait photographer, unfamiliar with how it works and what to expect. After reading Leslie’s warm and thoughtful writing, and seeing her gorgeous imagery, you’ll come to know her personally and as an artist, and you’ll know one thing for sure: She gets you."

Let me know what you think of the article :)

Spent half the day with Kristina and her beautiful family. We both have three boys and I loved seeing the similarities of our families. But, we were also very different and that's the best part. I've never photographed a family who was exactly the same. I spend a great deal of time and attention to make sure that your individuality is reflected in your session and the final images. Each experience is completely unique which makes the photos so much more special.

My MIL's home home is special to me because we lived there for a couple years when Zollie was a baby. We visit often since it's only a 3 hours away and I always bring my camera to take pictures of the boys in "Granny's world" A new addition since we lived there is a beautiful glass front door that makes the house magical in the late afternoon.

Take more photos at home. "Home is the storyline of who we are and a collection of all the things we love." ❤️

Words like these remind me why I tell family stories, why I crave moments and why I am at my best capturing a family as they are.

"I will never go back to having traditional portraits- seriously- ever. While the traditional portraits we had taken in the past captured what we looked like, they did not capture who we were at that time, or what is important to us.

These images represent a specific time in our lives, and looking at them reminds me to appreciate the little things that are often taken for granted- playing with bubbles in the backyard, watching Daisy dump the sand out of the sandbox (even though I told her 100 times to keep it inside), Cora eating her favorite snack- a bagel with cream cheese, and all of us sitting on the front porch in our rocking chairs. Years from now, I know I will look back at these images and remember these moments passed too fast.

If you are on the fence, please jump over, and just do it. You will not regret having storytelling photos, you will only smile and cry at the beauty that is your everyday life."

Full session is on my blog http://www.lesliekershaw.com/blog/2017/4/14/the-killians
