Brandon Ellis

Brandon Ellis I tell stories to shed light on movement, movements, and culture. Hey there, I'm Brandon Ellis (He/Him) - a Creative Director based in Washington, DC.

With over 10 years of experience under my belt, I've had the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects - from producing music videos for local musicians as early as 2008 to producing creative content under the Biden-Harris Administration in 2023. As an avid mountaineer and outdoor athlete, visually I draw inspiration from the beauty of the natural world, as I see it, and as I hope to see

it one day. I'm not always on the hunt for the most beautiful view, but often times the most meaningful journey. That desire for the journey, and the story comes from the people and communities that surround me in DC. Being here has truly fueled my passion for storytelling and creative expression. From editorial adventure stories to commercial campaigns, my creativity is informed by my desire to center nuanced perspectives, humanize people, and educate. My art is a reflection of the diverse diaspora of cultures and experiences that make me who I am today, and there's so much to share.

As Ramadan gets started in the US, please consider becoming a sponsor for our work here in Cairo.

Many families lost everything the last 16 months. I've been receiving photos since the CF started, of ruined homes of my friends who escaped here to Cairo. I've attached a few images from a good friend of his property in G🍉 and a video of the state of his home now.

We need sustained sponsorships. If you're interested please reach out, or simply donate directly.

I love y'all, thank you for your continued support of these folks and your humanity.

Suggested donations: $20/mo-$300/mo ($300 covers a families rent and living expenses for a month)
If you would like to directly sponsor a family, DM me or email me. All donations to directly to families.

This last year was so violent personally and collectively that it’s hard to see any good that came from it.

Divorce, abandonment, loss of family, displacement, death, manipulation, survivors guilt, the list goes on.

I had to really sit with myself to find things that were wins across 2024.

1. If it weren’t for exactly how annoying DC’s residents are both natives and some transplants, we would give the mayor the benefit of the doubt over and over again. 2024 really showed us exactly who Bowser is.

2. became a force, out of a last second decision based on community commitment. Happy to see my neighborhood standing on something ❤️

3. Here in Cairo we’ve been able to support 15-20 families from Gaza in ways a lot of these nonprofits can’t. We’ve had our struggles and unfortunately have lost people along the way but we are trying.

4. I went through all my photos of actions I shared and didn’t and I was reminded of how much effort people are putting into protest and direct action as a form of pressure against US corps & the gov. From January until I left DC in August, I participated in and photographed or filmed 116 actions. Often times multiple actions are happening at the same time, so the sheer volume of people organizing in DC for multiple issues, is staggering and encouraging to me.

5. feeding program and housing program and watching this all come together from and

6. Not dying in a stupid way in an Egyptian hospital.

7. We’re still here, and I’m not saying there’s a reason but what I am saying is there is still time. There’s time until there’s not. For many there is no time, so every moment counts. We have time, but not to spend frivolously.

2025 is carrying the memory of martyrs and friends and focusing on how we can stop the loss from spreading.

If you read this far, I’m still fundraising for our friends here in Cairo & in Gaza. Consider giving $5 weekly to support this effort. In Cairo this covers living expenses, a safe house for women from Gaza facing abuse (new), and medical expenses. Use 💜 and 🏠

I spend a good amount of time with this family, and am directly supporting this effort with a friend. He asked if we could do this, and I can't tell him no. We were turned away by nonprofits so we're doing this ourselves.

This becomes SO MUCH CHEAPER if anyone is willing to donate a Kidney and is a match. Let's talk if you think this is you.

We need to raise $55,000. We know it's a Hail Mary.
In Egypt you can't get treatment until you pay.
I love this kid and I want to see him live. I owe him two sheep if this all works out.

Please give, like, share, save, and tell me what was your favorite memory at 19 in the comments below 👇🏿

NOT IN VEIN

Students and working class Bangladeshi’s weren’t martyred in vein. The ongoing revolution in Bangladesh should be a lesson for all of us in mobilization, organization, and continually committing to the ideals of freedom and justice.

To me, the 🩸 of these Bangladeshi revolutionaries is a reminder that when order isn’t just, order must be uprooted to meet justice and restoration.

During this communications Blackout the last 3 weeks, major news sites have given weak often times misleading information about what’s going on, the death toll, and miscategorizing the unrest faced in country. This is a class struggle. This is tragic and heroic. The stories I hear from Bangladeshi organizers paints a much graver image than what I read from even the most accurate media websites.

“This feels different”
The intuition of those rooted in proximity and context should never be doubted. Especially for those of us raised in the West.

While we have largely relied on outlets like AJ, we have to remember, the people closest to the ground aren’t telling stories, they are sharing realities, verified or unverified by news sites. Lived reality trumps reports.

The đź’€ toll may never be accurately shared due to government suppression and the last few weeks. It may just be a number collected from several hospitals. But for each and every martyr matters.

We can learn a lot from Bangladesh, as we continue to bear witness to their revolution. Even still, Bangladeshi organizers continue to stand in solidarity with 🇵🇸

One lesson I’m reminded of is the power of the youngest of us. Youngest siblings have a superpower that older siblings don’t have: They saw less of the transformation of their parents. Youngest siblings lack some of the context for why things are the way they are, they simply see the problem or the success of their parent’s behavior.

The older sibling may make concessions the youngest simply will not. In the same way, students and the youth of our world see it for what it is, and demand better. In most cases, The only opposition is those of us who cling to context. Listen to the youth. Listen to students.

Congratulations 🇧🇩 next, 🫵🏾🇵🇸
