What is SUMMER IN THE STUDIO?
A studio pet photography pop-up on select dates all summer long because I melt in this DC heat 🥵AND I wanted to raise funds for pet parents (like me) facing a cancer diagnosis. ✨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here’s what each $300 session includes:
📸 30 minute pet photography session for up to 2 animals & their family
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🖼️ 1 - 5x7 fine art matted print + the corresponding digital file
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🐾 Private web gallery with up to 15 proof images + the option to order from the product catalog
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💰 25% of proceeds will be donated to the Live Like Roo Foundation, Live Like Roo Foundation – a canine cancer assistance organization in honor of my pup, Pepper. 🤍

In this world of AI and never-ending digital content, I’m embracing the tangible. Prints made in my home studio. Matted with acid-free materials. Made, assembled and shipped by me.

Why?
It’s not because I’m old-fashioned-although, maybe I am. It’s because there is something really special about making something with your hands, holding it in real life and knowing it will be loved for a lifetime.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yes, I use digital cameras and a photo printer–I’m not making these in a darkroom–BUT I am choosing the paper and making adjustments so that the print comes to life. I’m trimming and assembling the finished product. And while it is an extra step and expense, it is really important to me as an artist.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Digital file delivery is just not the same. I understand the importance of having that image to post to you feeds (and you will get that too), it’s just that providing a tangible print to you is way more fulfilling to me.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is what you will receive if you join me for a SUMMER IN THE STUDIO pop-up. A matted 5x7 print, the corresponding digital file and a web gallery full of proofs from your 30 minute session. 25% of proceeds will benefit the Live Like Roo Foundation, which provides financial and emotional support to pet parents facing a cancer diagnosis.

Last week we lost another one of our hiking regulars, Miss Sasha Sasha. Sasha and her mom, Laura, have been joining these hikes since the very beginning in 2018 and it has been a joy to explore the wilds with them for so long.

Sasha brought such a calm energy to the group and was always giving you hopeful eyes for a treat. She’s going to be missed. 💔

This throwback from 2019 is an example of how challenging it can be photographing around the monuments, especially during the summer tourism rush. We did get some amazing shots of this sweet girl >>> but this shoot inspired me to limit Mall shoots to sunrise only—before the touri converge. 😉

This summer, due to all of the events and construction on the National Mall, we won’t be able to accommodate lifestyle shoots there at all. (Have you seen the scene down there lately? It is INSANE!) So if your dream is to photograph around the DC monuments with me, check back for early fall dates when things are supposed to go back to “normal.”

When these two joined me for a 15 minute studio pop-up back in 2022, I was not sure we would get anything in such a short timeframe. I mean, a dog and a CAT in a pop-up studio at The Line Hotel? Oh boy. 🤪
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Preparation is key to success when working with multiple animals. My lights were prepped, I pulled this chair onto the backdrop to corral them into a smaller space and directed my assistant & their mom to place them while I got their attention. If you zoomed out to see the full scene you’d see controlled chaos at its best.

After going through a heartbreaking diagnosis with Pepper this spring, I realized how lucky we are to be able to seek care due to having pet insurance. Thank you ! It would have been very difficult to cover the expense without it.
