Big things are coming to Abbey Jones Photography!
As my junior year of college begins to come to a close, I have started to reflect on adulthood, teaching, and my business. I have a growing list of experiences and shoot types under my belt, and a growing portfolio as well!
I am currently taking clients for high school and college seniors, both for spring and fall shoots. The revenue from these shoots will (hopefully, I am a starving college student, after all) from now on go into an account that is exclusively for expanding my business and photography equipment. I can only hope to start buying precision lenses and more high-end equipment for this business.
Many people ask me what my end goal with photography is. I would absolutely be a full-time
photographer if the opportunity presented itself! That being said, I am currently in school to be a middle and high school English teacher. The beauty of my future professional field and this business is that I could absolutely do both of them.
I would absolutely love to be that photographer with multiple bodies, the lenses that are as long as your arm, that shoots weddings every weekend and gets paid the big bucks. I would love to have my own studio or even work for a newspaper as a photojournalist. However, I didn't get into photography because of the money, or even the artistry. I got my first camera during my senior year of high school and shot photojournalism for my high school paper when I wasn't editing or writing. I got into photography because I love interacting with people and getting to tell their stories through my lens! My favorite photography quote is “You don’t take a photograph. You ask, quietly, to borrow it" by Michael Slevens. I love the practice because of the people on the other side of me.
So, in the midst of lesson planning and student teaching, I am quietly building my little business. Working on my social media sites, editing more and more, and running my discount for collegiate senior photos. And hopefully, I will continue to grow and even find some shadowing opportunities.
Thank you for following my journey. For now, here is a photo of my sorority sister Julia from one of our fall photo shoots.
