The day was flooded with vs . Today Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby faced each other for the 100th time. They entered the league at the same time and hockey. They carried the and are responsible for new fans and players by the tens of thousands. Maybe more. I remember them as rookies, i remember the battles, regular season intense games and show stopping playoff series. 2 players that are soon to be Hall of Famers, and current Stanley Cup Champions, Olympians, record breakers, leaders and role models. They are icons. We don’t know if Ovi will get to wear the Red Sweater again. We dont even know if the Caps will be in the playoffs. But one thing i do know, when the NHL loses Ovi, we’ll feel the emptiness. When we lose Sid the kid, we’ll feel the loss. But when we realize there is no more Ovi vs Sid, we will all lose a part of ourselves, and we’ll only have the memories.
I won’t say goodbye to any of this until I have to. But i will say thank you to both of these players for giving us 20 seasons of absolute greatness we can never replace. Thank you being exactly what Hockey needed when we needed it. Thank you for letting us all be witnesses. Thank you for being the greatest rivalry this game has ever had.
