My grandfather, Bill, photographed Dolly Parton over the course of nearly 30 years.

He first photographed her on her high school trip to Washington, DC, a signature Central Photo Company portrait (slide 2) and then again years later, as she was becoming the cultural icon the world would come to treasure. Bill was one of the hardest-working people I’ve ever known — driving around in his Cadillac, stocked with liquor in the trunk, making friends everywhere, taking photos of everyone.

He was a lover of the arts like me, my dad and my aunt Rosemary Ivey A. and when I look at his era of archives, I truly see how divine life really is.

I think I subconsciously started photographing artists because of him. I think i turned out to be formidable and fierce because of Dolly.

Dolly Parton showed generations of women that you can wear the rhinestones AND build the empire.

“To thine own self be true.” Rest in Peace Dolly. 🦋✨ (and Bill)

Country music has always been part of our story.

Our second-generation owner, Bill Ivey, spent countless hours photographing artists he admired. Decades later, those negatives are still part of the Central archives.
